it's the last thing she's expecting from @lingeringscars in the moment — really, she didn't know what to expect at all the moment mari sat with her, given the way most of her team has looked at her today, but she was relieved to hear someone else understood why she had to do what she did. and more than that, mari was brave enough to say it, which is something nat can respect, more than she respects herself for as long as she's ignored coach's requests. it makes her feel less alone, because she's spent most of the day assuming it'd be her last, too. but mari gives her hope, so maybe that's exactly why she allows this: a sudden, impulsive, surprising kiss. she should stop it, if not for her confusion, for mari's safety, because mari doing this is likely only going to ostracize her too — but instead, she lets herself kiss her back. lets herself feel something good for once, her hand reaching to rest on mari's arm for a moment as she leans into it, until she remembers: she doesn't deserve it.
