I just started playing Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition (PS4) last night, and oh boy, I fell in love with it at the very first NPC you talk to. Already the game gave you a sense of melancholy and gloom with the art style and sounds (music and sound effects), but what really hammered the nail into the coffin was what the ElderBug said about HollowNest and the bugs going down the well to find it. This happened in Dark Souls, too, and I just love the idea and feeling of going to a place that was once beautiful and bustling with life, but you get there and it’s so dead and rotted that it feels like the tales were a lie. Also, the fact that you’re so small, and a supposed “higher being,” makes the world of HollowNest feel so much more ... wonderful? Fantastic? But not ‘wonderful and fantastic’ in the happy sense, but in the intimidating and mighty sense.

And those grubs, man 👌👌👌 adorable. 11/10. The best quality: Their wiggles. Them excited noises. Top Teir cuteness. Will save all so they can metamorphisize.
