I'm an Amazon Driver, and I deliver smiles.
I work as an Amazon driver. And the job pays well. Especially during Peak Season, which ends up being the end of November thru Christmas. Alot of packages dumped on your front door step, when accessible.
A bunch of glorified mailmen and mail-women.... Most people are grateful and very happy to receive their precious cargo. Of course you have the occasional asshole who you just have to ignore.
But I'm not here to complain about the job. As said, it pays well, considering how the price of living has gone up, I think myself pretty lucky to still have a job.
In general, because I and my fellow delivery drivers work in the customer service business, there are a few rules we absolutely have to follow:
1: the customer comes first. (Anyone that works in the industry of serving people can attest to this)
2: be as professional as you possibly can, the customer doesn't deserve your bad attitude
3: your personal life needs to be left at home (this is an unspoken rule amongst my peers)
4: don't engage with dogs of any kind
5: report any property damages (from smashing a mailbox to driving whatever vehicle into someone's home)
6: deliver every package like its your own
And
7: treat every customer with respect and courtesy.
They mean Every. Single. Customer.
That being said, I've delivered to a lot of places.... Alot of places. And to a lot of diffrent people....
This is one of the deliveries that stuck with me... And is why I treat every customer with respect.
I'm on the latter part of my route, it's pretty dark and I roll up to this house. Well not very much of a house, more like a cabin. Surrounded by an encirclement of trees, kind of ominous, if I'm honest.
I do as I need to, cut off the van, grab the package and walk up to this person's door. As I hit the first step, the door opens. Now this happens, but not as often as one would think.
People sometimes sit and just wait for the thing they ordered. Which isn't uncommon, their pretty excited and happy to see the Amazon Prime Van.
As the door creaks open, I prepare myself to smile and hand the customer their package. I wasn't really met with a... normal customer... A tall figure, all black, save for its eyes. Which where big and bright yellow with small white pin-pricks.
Standing about 6 foot, maybe taller, due to the shadow (?), man (?), Person... Being, let's go with that.
Was crouched in the door way, and it opened the door just enough for me to notice that their was an orange glow behind it.
"Mr...(blank for customer confidentiality)?" I managed to squeak out. Almost about to just cut and run. They didn't say anything about shadow people... at least not in training...
I gave a crooked smile. And the monster just stretched out is elongated fingers. Black smoke pouring off of its hand. Boney, slim and clawed, it stood unblinking. Handing the bring its package, I didn't break eye contact, or my half assed smile.
It didn't move as I walked up the next three steps and placed the package into its palm. Then took a step back,
"Uh... You're welcome?"
I wheezed out, half out of fear and half out of panic. Instead of a thank you, the monster man looked at the package, it's eyes trailing from my face to the package it ordered.
Then the white dots moved back to my face.
The shadow being let out a chattering noise, almost like when a cat meows and a mouse squeaking.... It wasn't hostile so I took it as a thank you.
Nodding, I backed off of the porch, only to freeze. A loud stomp was heard. With one foot on the last step, and the other firmly planted on the level-ish ground, I turned my head behind me.
A deer? Bear!? No... No... this thing was big like a bear... It definitely did have antlers... But this big bobbing light infront of it, only shined on my person and a bit on the porch of the shadow being. The light was connected to this things head. I could only make out the static like air around this thing...
What little bit of the light that did shine on this thing, only let me see vague features.
Such as:
Four eyes
Large, oversized antlers that seemed to stretch into the sky above.
Long, gleaming teeth. That were accompanied by a long black tounge
This things face was smushed... Like a Pug's face. The teeth poked crookedly out of its mouth.
Beyond all of that, I couldn't see much else... Its not like I wanted to. I took a glance at where the van sat. Maybe 15 feet away... Maybe. I could just press my luck with this thing. Treat it like one would a big, scary, aggressive dog. Can't be that bad right?
The deer-pug-bear thing snorted, and stomped it's front food again. And gave me a low growl, taking a step towards me.
"O-oh s-shit..."
I was still frozen in place. As this thing moved towards me, the shadow being, had stepped to my side. But stepped really wasn't the work for it... As I didn't actually hear the shadow man move closer...
Instead it glided down infront of me, now standing straight up. It's full height about 8ft... Perhaps a inch or so off... But it stood now infront of me.
Pitch black and now shimmering with a dull golden light, it made a small shooing motion, then pointed a long finger to the inside of its home.
The professional in me wanted to protest, but the fear took over and I ran into the cabin, nearly falling over the welcome mat.
The door shut on its own, slamming shut and giving me another spook. Which, at the time, was unwelcome. But thinking back to the inside of the home, it was quite comforting.
Warm and cozy out of the frozen winds, I stood awkward on the welcome rug, that nearly broke my neck.
Snarls and growls rang outside, echoing through the rest of the forest. About after 10 minutes, a screech rang out, then a scuffle and the stomping of feet fleeing was heard.
The door next to me creaked open and the shadow being stepped in, giving me a pat on the head and chattering. It bent down and held up a fist to me. Which I dumbly bumped with my own fist. It cocked its head at me, then repeated the gesture and opened its hand.
A small piece of what, looked like a little part of the deer-pug-bear things antlers. A black twine was tied to it. The shadow being lifted its hand a bit, in a giving gesture. Motioning for me to take the gift.
It gave me a calm feeling to look at the piece. So, not wanting to be rude, I took it and tied the twine around my neck. The handmade jewelry hung loose, and I slipped it into my shirt.
The shadow man gave me a nudge towards the door and one last chitter. I moved outside, giving a small, thankful bow, and headed to the truck. Hearing the shadow beings door click closed, I hopped onto the van and speed off.
That was the first of many odd encounters.
I dont know what this gift does, or will do. But hopefully it'll bring me some needed protection from any harm.
So far, it has kept me relatively safe.
I hope this doesn't deter anyone from working a job like mine. And it's not to scare anyone. But to warn you of the paranormal encounters of a simple worker.
Thank you for your time. And there are definitely more stories to come.
Till then, take care!
