As an Indigenous person who used to be really active in the Terror fandom and still follows a lot of blogs and tags, I have to say that the silence of white fans today is deafening.

In the settler state of so-called Canada (where the Terror largely takes place), September 30 is the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, or Orange Shirt Day. This is a time for people to reflect on their privilege as white settlers in this country, recognize what they can do for the Indigenous communities whose occupied lands they live on, and remember the horrific atrocities committed against Indigenous, Métis, and Inuit children who were subjected to the genocidal Residential School and Indian Day School system.

My father is a survivor of that school system, and so this is something that is very close to my heart. If this fandom wants to consider themselves to be aware of the issues affecting Indigenous peoples in Canada, and how colonialism (especially that of the kind enacted by John Franklin and men like him) shaped the ways that Indigenous communities were treated by the European imperial powers that funded the "exploration" of North America, then take the time to research what Truth and Reconciliation is and what you can do as a white person in this fandom to show your support to the Indigenous, Métis, and Inuit people of Canada who survived generations of colonial attempts to destroy us, our cultures, and our communities.
