DVD Commentary for this passage from an olive brach, or an arrow?
(this is my favourite fic of yours, by the way!)
The name tastes all too new on his tongue. His fingers trace the lines of the heron on his necklace, a weight around his neck; a noose, or maybe a claim. A Herondale's reached out hand from afar. Blue eyes follow his movement for a second before Kit straightens out, his attention snapping to the wall.
"I didn't come here to talk to you", Kit says. Eye contact is not something Ty seeks out, but he's the one usually avoiding it; he's not so sure how to feel about Kit staring at the wall. "Wouldn't be here if I had another choice."
Broader shoulders. Less freckles. A tiny little scar crossing Kit's eyebrow, long faded. Chipped nail polish. Two golden piercings, a different way of standing- less like someone trying to disappear. Kit has changed.
Okay so- Kit's name tastes new because Ty hasn't said it in so long; it's become unfamiliar on his tongue. Which doesn't mean he hasn't thought about him. Ty plays with the heron pendant because it's become a comforting habit to him, reminding him that some part of Kit still cares enough to send it. Kit can't help but look for his own symbol on Ty.
But Kit doesn't want to look at Ty, it's too painful, he can't pretend he isn't here if he's looking at Ty, so he looks away. Kit is trying his hardest to distance himself from this situation because he feels he's unwanted, and that makes Ty uncomfortable because it's Kit once again running away from their connection.
Ty lists the little ways in which Kit has changed because they're all new to him, and Ty likes to organize his thoughts in lists, he likes to hoard little Kit facts like a dragon hoards coins, and it hurts that he wasn't there to see them develop naturally over time. It feels like Kit stole something from him by denying him the opportunity.
Thanks again for the ask!!
