Amedot bomb January prompts!

Amedot Bomb 5 Day 7: Warm by the Fire

Somebody banging on the door woke Amethyst up from her nap. She got off the couch with a groan.

“Coming,” her voice dragged with tiredness.

Amethyst opened the door to see Peridot rubbing her arms and shivering, she immediately rushed in and past Amethyst.

“Stars it’s cold out there,” was the first thing to come out of her mouth, then she noticed who let her in. “Oh, hi Amethyst.”

“Hey Peri,” Amethyst waved. “Got a bit cold in the barn?”

Peridot nodded. “Yes. You’re lucky the heat and cold don’t affect you. Apparently that’s another feature I lack.”

Amethyst thought a moment. “Hang on a sec, I have something in my room that’ll help.”

The fire cracked as Peridot held her hands infront of it. Amethyst returned with a thick blanket and large sweater.

“I don’t got any pants that’ll fit you but this should help,” Amethyst said as she handed the sweater to Peridot.

Peridot pulled the sweater over her head feeling grateful for the softness and thickness.

She then felt a blanket drape over her shoulder and Amethyst pulling her close.

“Feel better?”

“Yeah, thanks Amethyst,” Peridot replied as she snuggled closer to her girlfriend.

Resting by the Fire

Peridot watched as the flames danced in the pit before them. Amethyst and Steven had come over to hang out with her and Lapis for a while. They had all been stargazing. Peridot had sat up and taken to staring at fire instead. The others were still on their backs watching the sky. She looked over to the right and admired what laid before her. Amethyst was sprawled on her back, with a soft smile on her face. Peridot looked behind her to the barn’s roof. She could just make out the shapes of Lapis and Steven on it. They must be enjoying themselves. The gem sighed, before returning to moodily eyeing the fire. Peridot had developed an interesting love and hate relationship with the stars. On one hand, they were simply beautiful. She had rarely left Homeworld. If she did, usually they were quick trips to kindergartens in nearby quadrants. The gem had never been in any position to look at stars. She had no reason to care about them. But since she had come to live at the barn, she had found herself doing a lot of things that she had never considered before. Stargazing, was one of them.

It had fascinated her how from a distance the large light bearers looked like simple crystals suspended in the black of space. Distance could make those large celestial bodies that were awe-inspiringly large look almost insignificantly small. What looked dangerous and angry up close, looked stately and serene from far away. These conflicting images of the stars knocked around in her head until her heart sped up and she became restless. She would usually turn away from them before finding something to distract her in the barn. The only reason she did not retreat as she usually did was because Amethyst was there. She did not want to be rude and just leave her guest.

“Hey Peri… something wrong?” came Amethyst’s call. Peridot was drawn out of her thoughts. She turned to see Amethyst laying on her side, gaze concerned. Peridot was caught off guard as she had not noticed that the purple gem had stopped the sky and started watching her. She slowly turned back to the fire, suddenly feeling shy. How could she explain the feelings she had to Amethyst without sounding ridiculous? She sighed.

“Seeing the stars like this is unnerving… I guess.” answered Peridot slowly. “I mean, up close they are so intimidating… but far away… they almost seem harmless.” Suddenly, the image of Yellow Diamond screaming at her came to the forefront of her mind. Peridot closed her eyes against it and shuddered. Her eyes then shot open as a weight settled on her shoulder. Amethyst had placed her hand on Peridot’s shoulder.

“Seems like something more than the stars is bothering you.” Said Amethyst softly. Peridot pondered on that. Perhaps she was right. Now that she thought about it her Diamond had been the center of her universe ever since she was formed. It had hurt her when she realized that she was one of many to Yellow Diamond. There was nothing special about her in her Diamond’s eyes. Then when she had rejected what Peridot thought was a solid argument in favor of a probably one use weapon. That had shattered her image of the Diamond for good. The stars reminded her of this duality. From afar her Diamond had been beautiful… perfect. But up close, Peridot discovered that she was flawed and dangerous. It had left a hole in the gem. But all had not been lost, she had friends now. She snuck a peek at Amethyst, who was still gazing at her. Her stare was intense but marred by concern. Concern for her, she amended. For Amethyst there was only one Peridot. Here with the purple gem’s arm around her shoulder she was unique and valuable. Sitting by a warm fire with Amethyst for company was way better than staring at stars anyway.
