Just because he didn't have the shield anymore, that didn't mean Steve Rogers hadn't been keeping an ear to the ground about goings on that might pertain to him or any of the other Avengers. Usually, he was looking at reports and picking up signals from some of his friends and colleagues about difficult situations where his assistance would surely be welcomed, but it did feel odd not donning the outfit or having his shield handy anymore.
That said, the things he'd been hearing about Wanda lately…well, in truth, even since Thanos' final defeat, he'd been seriously worried about her, but now, more than ever, his concern had reached a high peak. It was enough to make him consider getting involved himself, even though he'd tried his best to let Wanda live her life on her own away from The Avengers. But maybe some sort of anchor and safe harbor was what she needed most. It was something Steve had been ruminating on in the recent days, and just as he had finally resolved to seek her out, there was a knock at the door.
"…Wanda?" He had planned to find Wanda. He hadn't anticipated that she would find him first.
Time had begun to blur together for Wanda. Between the first fight with Thanos, and then supposedly being gone for five whole years, and up until now... Wanda wasn't sure how long had truly passed. Days? Weeks? Months? She had lived years in her own little world, living her perfect, happy life with Vision and their children. But in reality, only days had passed. Days since she'd been brought back to life when it felt as if no time at all had passed, days since she'd tried to bring Vision's body home, days since she'd followed the map Vision had left for her and driven to Westview, days since...
She no longer felt like herself. She was hurt, grieving, and so incredibly confused. For years she had believed herself to be one thing, only to now discover she was something completely different. And not only that, she'd been a wife and a mother, and now she was nothing. Now, she was once again a fugitive.
She'd hidden away for a few days in a lone cabin she'd found in a secluded piece of land, and it had taken no time at all for her to clean it up with the help of her magic. For those few days, she poured over Agatha's book, barely getting any sleep at all as she allowed the spells to consume her waking moments so she wouldn't have to think about other things. And then, she discovered a spell where her physical body could sleep and she could still continue her studying.
She had been fine on her own. This was her life now, wasn't it? But then as she read the book, she could hear her boys crying for her, calling for help. She couldn't be alone again after that, but she didn't know where to go. She knew where she wanted to go, but it took her a while to muster up the courage to actually knock on his door.
"I didn't know where else to go." She murmured shamefully as he opened the door. Steve, who had always given her a chance to redeem herself. Steve, who had always supported her and never judged her. Steve, who had been her truest friend.
