i live for the future in my head. a small apartment with lots of light. i invite my sister over to sleepover, she comes every weekend or so, or whenever she needs. we cook dinner together. on the days she manages to drag my brother from his computer we cook for him too. sometimes we make him help, but really he just stands around pretending.

i live for a future of laughter and kitchen lights where my sister is my best friend and my brother never feels silenced.

I’ve been reading romance novels lately (modern ones - less bodice ripper, more “romantic with the occasional sex scene” thrown in) and I just have to ask: 

Why do all of these novels contain the fake dating trope??

...do people actually do this? In real life, not in novels? I’ve never lied and said I’m dating someone I’m not. We’ve all fantasized about dating someone, sure. But never lied about it. 

(Then again, at 13 I swore I was going to marry a Backstreet Boy, and not a real person, so maybe I shouldn’t talk. No one would ever believe I would meet Howie D, much less hook up with him.) 

(I also wanted to date Tommy Oliver, aka the Green Ranger, but who didn’t???) 

The only time I’ve ever written this myself is the one RP storyline @runicmagitek and I wrote, because their character wasn’t ready to come out of the closet and my character had no trouble being the pretend boyfriend for a family party. These two characters did not fall in love at the end. They were besties. THE END. 

I just... I’m reading these so I can write my own, and I really don’t want to write that trope. Hmm.

nothing makes me want to quit school more than exam season. i just want to sleep through it. having to sit for ours at a time in one spot and study something that is so uninteresting to me is the worst. i know i have to push through the first year so i get to the subjects that are actually important for my degree but boy do i want to drop out.

i finally got my scholarship!! i've been waiting since october but i got the letter yesteday and i'll get the money probably next week which means I CAN GET NEW SHOES🎉🎉

Dear Papyrus,

I understand that you don't want to send out paperwork and want everything to be online, blah blah blah, but you still need to mail out your W-2s so I can do my taxes. Legit, hearing I'm not the first person who called the store asking what was up isn't reassuring, though the new manager seems nice. They're going to have me access all this info online O_o How very Skynet of you. 

Also, your customer service number listed on your website doesn't work - it refused to connect, and I tried three times. And your parent company's website is simply listed as "under construction," so I can't even find a corporate number that way. Seriously. You might want to look into that. 

At least worrying about Papyrus stuff keeps me from worrying about baby stuff. Ultrasound tomorrow, because apparently I'm measuring too big for where I'm supposed to be and my doctor thinks there's extra amniotic fluid. Of course, I then came home and looked up what might cause that, and what might happen because of it, which I shouldn't have done because I freaked myself out. Badly. >.< So... not quite sure what's going to happen with that yet. It's likely I may end up starting my leave early even if he doesn't want to come out, though. (If I do have to deliver early, he's term as of tomorrow, so at least that's one worry off my plate.) My doctor seemed very skeptical about letting me go back yesterday. 

Le sigh. Things are things, and what will happen will happen.

Rambles.

My mom is actually planning a baby shower for me. Granted, it took her until TODAY to tell me, and I'm pretty sure my aunt had a heavy influence on her. (I spent the weekend at my aunt and uncle's right before New Year's, and they were amazing, and asking about the baby and everything. So I have the feeling that she called up my mom after I went home like, "When's Amie's shower?" And my mom was probably like, "Oh yeah......." and thus we're here.) She also offered to give me the baby sets that both Chris and I came home in - which were my dad's. She also has the clothes she came home from the hospital in. 

Jon wants little man to come home in a Terrible Towel, which will also happen. But I get to pick out the clothes he wears underneath that :p 

So... yeah. Having a good morning, even if I know my hormones are out of whack and I could break down crying any second now. And even though my hands are starting to swell like crazy, and it worries me (it's a potential sign of preclampsia, which I'm hoping like hell I don't have because that shit's scary). Even managed to do a little bit of yoga this morning - just the 15 minute warm up, but considering that I've been slacking, it's better than nothing. 

Still weird to go through the relaxation poses and have little man decide to start kicking me in the ribs. I think he was just jealous. 

Now, to work. Hopefully no one's decided to kill anyone while I was off.
