This will be divided in two parts: Historical context and Spider-Man life and origins.
I have much more written down for my spidersona, but before I post any of that I want to show some of the lore and context for the Earth i’ve created for Spider! Basic name I know, but there are story reasons for it. Warning, I’m NOT a writer nor is english my first language so sorry if something doesn’t make much sense- I tried my best!
Historical context:
(Not super relevant to this post but important to understand later on…)
There have been superheroes in different generations, but the original rise of heroes as we know them today started in the 40’s to the 60’s. Captain America (who wasn’t really considered just a hero but also an american soldier) and his sidekick Bucky, along with the original X-Men, and other heroes around the world were most important in this time. Entering the 70’s the big celebrity hero movements slowly died out. They were still a thing but people started to look more to the ‘military heroes’ (superpowered agents) that helped as soldiers in the Cold War. Later on heroes became more of a local thing…
This was until the Fantastic Four came to light after their accident (around 1998) and they as a hero team debuted in the year 2000 looking to lend a hand all over the States, flying quickly from place to place with their new technology. This starts a big boom for seeing heroes as popular, celebrity like figures.
Apart from the F4, Ironman (who appeared for the first time in 2003) and Spider-Man (officially appearing for the first time in 2006) were considered part of the beginning to this new superhero renaissance as well, ‘a Golden Era’ starting in the early 2000’s (many other superheroes came to be during this time the ones previously mentioned were the most influential to this movement).
Groups like the Avengers were formed along with a resurgence of the X-Men and talks about mutant and super rights are brought back to the public.
SHIELD becomes public knowledge (previously only a secret spy organization that put a focus on working with using supers in secret to their advantage) and becomes the ‘hero branch’ of the government.
In 2009 the Avengers are the main group sponsored by SHIELD and the american government, but other groups like the F4 are sometimes sponsored by them too. Basically the government acts as their boss and overseer.
Although very popular, Spider-Man is not considered a ‘hero’ by the government or any official source- but a vigilante. This is because he doesn't work with SHIELD directly (refusing to work under them and reveal his identity) and does what he needs to do to help, not necessarily following the law.
The general public in NYC still considers him a hero, and one of the most consistent ones at that, but those outside of NYC just see what the government and news tell them. Outside of NYC Spider-Man’s mostly seen as a ‘menace’. The new X-Men are on a similar route and don’t work with SHIELD, moving around different parts of the US.
In the beginning, the groups and individuals not working for the government, while not actively being hunted down by them, had to be on the lookout because they were often arrested for years. This changes once SHIELD starts wanting more control and more power, you either obeyed or were gone.
This Golden era lasted about 15 years, then it quickly becomes evident that it’s a very corrupt system. Less of doing what’s good for the people, more of doing what’s ‘best for the country’.
In 2021 the first official group fully organized by SHIELD is created called Thunderbolts, and they mainly look to bust the ‘illegal vigilantes and mutants’.
Avengers stay with SHIELD but the F4 become a bit more independent (still working alongside SHIELD for big events (example: alien invasions or big attacks to major cities) but they are more focused on the Future Foundation).
Moving on to this universe’s one and only Spider-Man! - Richard “Junior” Peter Parker
My universe’s version of Peter Parker, here he was just named after his dad. Peter is his second name and only his close friends and family call him Peter or Petey, everyone else calls him Junior and Richard (or Richie ocasionally to fuck with him because he hates it). The Junior nickname first was given by Ben and it stuck.
He grows to be a very empathetic person, always willing to lend a hand. He’s also very practical, witty and a quick thinker. His sense of humor can be sarcastic at times, especially when tired (which is often). A very independent guy, doesn’t like relying on anybody even the people he loves because he doesn’t want to feel like a burden.
He tends to work alone as Spider-Man, only occasionally working alongside other NYC vigilantes (and secretly with the F4 behind the scenes sometimes).
About his family:
Mom: Mary Aine Parker, originally Mary Aine (Awn-ya) Fitzpatrick. Research geneticist at OSCORP. Parents immigrated from Ireland to the US before she was born, later moved to NYC.
Dad: Richard Laurence Parker. Born and raised in NYC. Pediatric doctor. Met Mary early on in college, and they dated 6 years before getting married.
Uncle Ben: Benjamin Joseph ‘Ben’ Parker. Junior’s dad’s older brother, met May once she moved to the same apartment building he was living in. They dated 11 months before getting married.
Aunt May: Margarita ‘May’ Parker, originally Margarita Angelina Santos. Parents were very catholic religious and strict, but she’s not really. Moved to NYC from Santo Domingo at 16 to be with her other family. She bought Ben flowers on their first date.
Junior grew up with his uncle and aunt in an apartment in Queens. Ben was a construction manager and May was an ER nurse, and they could get really busy. This doesn't mean they don't care about Junior, in fact they love him a lot and tried their best to make time for him, they just weren’t ever really planning on having children and are very much workaholics dedicated to their professions. This causes Junior to feel guilty about staying with his uncle and aunt sometimes.
Both Junior’s parents died when he was 4 years old in a car fatal car crash on their way to present at a conference.
Junior got bit at 15 years old, becoming Spider-Man six months after. He gets bit during a school sanctioned end of the semester field trip for kids with high science grades at OSCORP.
His abilities include: spider sense, super strength, can stick to walls, can produce webs (uses silk webs made artificially most of the time bc that fades after a certain amount of time and he can adjust them as needed), super senses (smell, sight, touch, hearing) so sensitive to things spiders are (peppermint, lemon, tea tree oil, eucalyptus, cinnamon, citronella and some cleaning products), and after some time he gains the ability to predict people’s actions by a few seconds.
Forgot to mention: but because of everything that’s going on in the government, Junior is probably even more protective of his identity than even Peter. People are actively trying to persecute him every single time he goes out to patrol, so he isn’t just fighting villains- he’s also fighting and running from heroes like the Avengers, and later on the Thunderbolts, pretty frequently.
He makes friends with Ned Leeds in middle school and then MJ (Mary Jones-Watson) during high school. During his 3rd year of college he starts dating MJ (Friends to loversssss. They have fights in between but they pull through).
He ends up graduating HS (with like 100 absences) and is able to go to college and studies Biochemistry, minoring in Education.
I’m college he makes friends with Gwen (Gwendolyne Maxine Stacy, was a love interest for a tiny bit at the start of college after they met in class, but she passed away before their first date) and Harry Osborn (They lowkey hate each other at first and form some sort of rivalry but become somewhat friends later on. Once Gwen passes they have a falling out).
After Junior graduates he decides to become a chem teacher- he’s every students favorite teacher but the admins HATE him because he turns in everything late and barely shows up to meetings.
This is where my spidersona Spider comes in. I have a lot written about them already but I feel like I need to refine it a little bit before posting, so it might take a little while before I write down Spider’s story to post. Again; I’m definitely NOT a writer nor is english my first language so sorry if something doesn’t make much sense.
