Adventures in Zoology (Comics)

I’ve decided to turn some of the stuff that I have learned/ am currently learning in my Zoology classes into some comics:

Ball State Cheerleaders as Brown Anoles 

Based on the aggression displays of brown anoles,  Anolis sagrei, these primarily brown lizards have a red dewlap to scare off any other lizard encroaching on their territory!

Moniter Lizard Costume Party

Moniter Lizards, such as the Komodo Dragon, are known as the Kings of Lizards!

Just Your Average Gecko- a comparison between Spider-Man and a gecko

Geckos use microscopic hairs on their toe pads in order to create Van der Waals forces with anything they want to climb on, giving the ability to “stick” to anything!

Amphisbaenians- Amphisbaenians are legless squamates (meaning they are in the same order as snakes and lizards), but they aren’t snakes.  Their scales are arranged in a circular pattern, and despite their resemblance to earthworms, they are more closely related to lizards- hence their nickname, Worm Lizards!

These are entirely aquatic salamanders from Mexico with paedomorphic traits (meaning it keeps its baby traits all life long without metamorphosis)!

Canada Goose

While many American birds have “American” followed by the type of bird (like the American Robin), Canadian birds have “Canada” followed by the type of bird (Canada goose, Canada jay, etc).  I unfortunately found this out after having put Canadian Goose on a lab quiz in Ornithology instead of Canada Goose.  Ope

My new favorite animal(besides giraffes which will always be my favorite ungulate) is an amphisbaenian. A type of reptile that looks like a worm. Unfortunately my best friend hates it and thinks it looks like a dick

I wish there were big lepidosaur blogs just to make people appreciate squamates. Of all tetrapods, lepidosaurs seem to be the least appreciated. It’s probably because of them not being fluffy and therefore, not seen as cute. Snakes especially have it bad with how widespread the fear of them are.

Other reptiles (especially birds) have some level of popularity, even if not much as mammals, so why are lepidosaurs given so little love? Yeah, birds are the last surviving dinosaurs, but tuataras are the last surviving rhynchocephalians! I just wish that there was more love for lepidosaurs, okay?
