Everytime I hug my dad standing up I forget about the prosthetic leg and we always end up having a 'wobble'.
I can't tell if I genuinely have forceful hugs or if he just forgets he has a prosthetic leg.

i need a tumblr community for the amputees and limb different babes and i need it now and free of devotees and fetishists assholes i wanna vent about stuff with my people im so tiredddd
My nerves got messed up with amputation but not to the point it was debilitating, so I don't know much about how surgery would be used to correct it, do you want to share about that? Or just point me in the direction of resources/ places with infos about it, if it's too personal or tiring or just not beneficial for you to talk about. Sorry to hear that you've been struggling so much lately.
it's called tmr and it's basically a re-routing of the severed nerves in my leg to improve pain and prosthetic use. i've been told most people have tmr during the amputation but since mine was emergency surgery they didnt have the time to do it, so it happened several months later and didnt work. there are several approaches and variables to tmr so im not sure what they want to do with me, i decided to postpone it when ill be mentally more stable and calm. I hope it makes sense lmk if you have more questions!
If you're cool with a question about your mobility, I'm curious if the experience of sitting in/operating your chair is notably different when you do or don't have your prosthetic on? (assuming you self propel and you ever use the chair when you have your leg on)
(And if you're not I will send a different ask)
💜
uhhh that's an interesting question! yeah, I use a wheelchair both with and without the prosthesis. id say it usually works better when im wearing it, cause I dont need the leg support. when im not wearing the prosthetic leg, it’s usually because it hurts so I have to keep my leg up and be super careful not to bump into people or stuff — which makes me kinda anxious, especially when im out and about! The prosthetic gives me more stability even when im sitting — i can plant my feet, if that makes sense, and i just feel like my core is more stable. without it, i have to rely only on my other leg and my arms. i hope it makes sense!!
If i had a dollar everytime an adult person asked me if my leg was going to regrow eventually now i would have something like 20 dollars which is not much but still way too much
Fellow amputees, how are you doing this summer? Is the heat killing you as well?
Story time:
I spent the summer in my wheelchair like 90% of the time since it was to humid and hot to wear my prosthetic leg full time
(i only put it on early mornings for a short walk or late at night if i had to go out)
(it was a terrible summer btw and i felt defeated and sad and crippled most of the days)
(but that is a story for another time)
Well i started wearing my leg more and more since the weather has cooled down and i was so happy! independency! and mobility! and my back finally starting to cooperate! and my hips realigning and everything!
And suddendly, BAM: phantom pain! I almost forgot it existed. Three months in a wheelchair and it was completely gone!? And the minute i start walking again it's back???? So weirdddd
It’s a short animated film called The Present. It is about two minutes and is incredibly touching. Also, at least for me, it hit close to home. Probably more than I thought it would. Give it a watch.
