Any thoughts on F-Zero?
I prefer F-Zero to Wipeout. Unfortunately, whenever somebody makes a spiritual successor to one or the other, it's usually Wipeout.
There's one indie game I like that's closest to F-Zero, and that's Super Pilot. Super Pilot's visuals are a little simple, but it ships with a track editor and custom soundtrack support. And it controls very well. There's Aero GPX, too. And Extreme Formula now as well. I guess they're stacking up.
I think Nintendo is afraid to do something with F-Zero. It's hard to live up to F-Zero GX. I heard from someone credible that Nintendo was actually developing an F-Zero GX remaster, sort of like what happened with Metroid Prime, but I assume that with GX turning up on the Switch 2 Classics, that project is probably dead in the water.
F-Zero GX is a very Sega-type game. It was developed by Amusement Vision, Toshihiro Nagoshi's development studio. They also developed Monkey Ball and would go on to do Yakuza. He was actually saying that somebody should let him do another F-Zero, but then he left Sega and went to NetEase or Tencent. Perhaps he was involved in the remaster, and him leaving the company put it on ice.
I'd like a new F-Zero, but I really don't know if Nintendo is up to it.
