One of the things I love from the finale for DWDE is that The King keeps silence once Avery appears in the scene.
That doesn't try to manipulate Avery.
That doesn't try to negotiate either to Avery or D3rlord3 to archive it's goals.
That just...
Stares, silently, how the interaction between D3rlord3 and Avery unfolds.
At first, I thought The King just didn't want to interrupt because it was the better move, or maybe the damage it suffered thanks to D3rlord3 put it in shock.
But that doesn't make sense. The King is a God, something far beyond our mere understanding of the world. Something far stronger than anything in our universe.
Yes, it didn't expect D3rlord3 to try something so suicidal and... And so heroic.
But it has so much power and knowledge and who knows how much experience, so it should have acted in some way or another in that scene. D3rlord3 being heroic shouldn't shock it THAT much, right?
And that's the key to understanding the perspective of The King in that last scene, it didn't expect D3rlord3 to have the will or the reason to be a hero. It didn't fit D3rlord3, in the perspective of The King.
That's why The King offered Derek things like Money, Power or Fame in desperation to save itself. It thought that was the reason D3rlord3, something selfish like the persecution of fame or power.
But the sudden presence of Avery makes something clear to The King, something so obvious that makes That Thing feel stupid for the first time in its existence, maybe.
D3rlord3 wasn't doing this for fame or power, those selfish things weren't important to him, not anymore.
Derek was doing all of this for a love so deep it gave him the enough will to combat The King and its orders.
And that love began to flourish the moment D3rlord3 crossed those golden doors and saw it, and all the information of the universe flooded the mind of Derek.
And The King just let him do his thing, to run and try to warn the world about the danger, just like many other men and women before him.
But when D3rlord3 was absorbing the knowledge of all the past, present and future, Derek noticed one thing. Or, well, it would be more accurate to say he noticed a person.
He noticed Avery, his past, his present and all the ways his future could develop. And, most likely, he noticed the relationship that could develop between the two in the future or in other realities.
He viewed how Derek and Avery were just strangers that passed by in the street, in other circumstances.
He viewed how Derek and Avery could have been lifelong friends and all the memories they both shared with appreciation, in other reality.
He viewed how Derek and Avery would be enemies and how everything went horribly wrong, in a future he didn't want to think much.
He viewed how Derek and Avery could be lovers and how beautiful something like that could be, in a possibility he desired could be possible.
And that's why The King didn't try to speak or act in some way in the end, because it realized that it gave Derek the small chance to win in the moment it gave D3rlord3 all the knowledge of the universe.
And it was too arrogant to see that, and too selfish to stop it. So, when Avery and Derek were discussing, the only thing The King could do was watch in silence.
Because it lost to Love, and The King couldn't do anything to change it, not anymore.
Imagine being the guy who wrote The King In Yellow book rn, like, your old ass book just got revived from the grave thanks to a random Minecraft arg some guy made.
The way he just... Catch himself losing control of his emotions and then putting the jerk mask again talk a lot of his character and how he copes with, well, everything.
And I kinda believe that metaphorical mask is what makes him bully Gangle so much, like, she and her false 'happy mask' are a constant reminder of the fact he is lying to everyone, including himself, about being an absolute idiot who has zero feelings for anyone and loves to annoy everyone to him, so he feels like a need to put Gangle in "her place" or smth like that.
