Hi there... I'm genuinely concerned about one of my alters. I was only recently diagnosed so i dont know much about it all. But she seems to be autistic. I study psychology and know the signs. I was just wondering if that's possible. Thanks in advance. -AmyW
Hello Amy,
It is possible for an alter to show symptoms of disorders that the host may not present, yes. However, as far as I am aware, that illness will not be able to be diagnosed as it’s not part of you (the host), it’s part of your alter. That being said, I think that the best thing to do would be to speak to the psychiatrist that diagnosed you about what you’ve noticed. They are specially trained in psychiatric illnesses, and will be the best person to discuss any concerns that you have. Not only can they be someone who can give you answers, but they can also give you ideas on how to help in this situation and ongoing support.
If you’re from the UK, there’s also an organisation called Positive Outcomes For Dissociative Identity Disorder, and they could give you some support through this between now and when you can see your doctor. They do operate by appointment, but can be contacted on the phone on Tuesdays between 6pm and 8pm. Their number is 0800-181-4420.
So do see your psychiatrist (if your appointment is too far down the track, give them a call and ask if you can move it forward, or talk to them about the issues), as they’re the best person to help you and your alter through this.
Take care,Alexandria.
