Illogic - An Ocean [prod. Blockhead]
We don’t have a friendship, we don’t have a relationship, we have a river.
What we have is a river that we share
And sometimes I want to float down that river with you on a nice raft. To go white water rafting, having fun going down the different rapids, enjoying the wildlife of all the birds and occasional fish. To float on by and watch the sky, the clouds, the trees, the boulders, how the water moves. To simply enjoy each other‘s presence.
But other times I want you to see that I’m swimming across that river. And when I’m at the other side, I’m there first to catch my breath from the constant swimming but then I don’t just catch my breath, I get pulled to stay.
To stay on that other side of the river where you are, but as after a great deal of time passes. I realize I stayed on this side for longer than I thought. I need to go back and swim across to my side.
When I do finally make it back to my side of the river, I’m completely exhausted and out of it. So then comes the next day and my whole body is sore from the trip, I tell myself “I’m not gonna do that again cause it was too much for me”.
But, it’s been a while enough now that my body isn’t sore from the swimming and I start to remember how kinda fun it was to swim and how much I actually like being on the other side. So I decide to swim the river again to get to that other side. But to get across the water, is really hard, it slowly drains me and it’s time consuming.
I think that maybe the river will into an ocean one sudden day. An ocean that I’m not trained to swim across, and while I was never trained to swim across the river either, a river is doable, it’s not too wide, its a one way current and no intense waves.
But if those big ocean waves start coming my way while I’m swimming, I won’t be able to stay afloat, at that point you won’t be able to see me in the water from your rocky shore. And you can’t turn yourself into a coast guard from a hiker, travelist or nomad. Life doesn’t work that way. I needed you to in time become that lifeguard while I was still swimming in the river.
You watch her walk away and it hits you that she is an entire ocean and you were wrong, so very wrong, because you let her go thinking she was just a girl.
Nikita Gill, A Girl, An Ocean
"She carried an ocean in her eyes, and I was lost in it, not wanting to be found, ever."
- DG (Her eyes, an ocean)
“It’s very simple but also very complicated. It’s a strange revelation that it’s not about flapping your wings, it’s something about being so much in the present moment you can just do anything because self-doubt feeds on the past and the futur, so you can just do it but if you doubt yourself you’re straight back down on the ground.” - Kristian Matsson, Introduction to his song “An Ocean”
SHOW PREVIEW: An Evening with The Tallest Man on Earth at Lincoln Theatre
There is no reason why you should miss the folk legend known as The Tallest Man on Earth! Known for his catchy tunes, unique voice, and amazing guitar playing, singer/songwriter Kristian Matsson has a knack for writing some of the best 21st century folk music. His concerts are full of unique live orchestrations and a guaranteed great atmosphere.
Hailing from Sweden, Kristian started his music career around 2006, playing small venues and working on demos. In 2008, Kristian released his first album under the name Tallest Man On Earth, which was titled Shallow Grave. The album was met with lots of critical praise, especially for the songs “The Gardener” and “Pistol Dreams.” Shallow Grave also landed him an NPR Tiny Desk concert and a spot opening for indie native Bon Iver. After that, Kristian released a similar follow-up album in 2010 titled The Wild Hunt, which was just as well-received. His last album, Dark Bird Is Home, was released in 2015 and addresses the struggles he was experiencing from his recent divorce as well as the death of a close family member. The Tallest Man On Earth’s sound is closely described to that of legend Bob Dylan, both in the style of his songwriting as well as his voice.
Kristian has not toured in a while, especially in the U.S. In fact, this will be one of his first tours in the U.S. in a little over four years! The Lincoln Theatre is also a great venue to host The Tallest Man on Earth, both in style and sound. He recently dropped “An Ocean,” a new single for his upcoming album, When The Bird Sees The Solid Ground. The song mixes both the old sounds and new developing sounds from The Tallest Man on Earth. So, in short, do yourself a favor and buy tickets now to see him on November 9, 2018 at The Lincoln Theatre. While that may be some ways away, that gives you plenty of time to re-listen to his past work and await the release of his new album, which should drop later this year! He also mentioned in a post that he will be dropping a new single and video every month leading up to the album’s release, so keep an eye out!

The Tallest Man On Earth - An Ocean
Shall we just go little wreck of my heart Go for the waves out there Oh I know These are frightening seas
When old bastards are ripping apart All what is kind out there All we grow And how wild we dream
Somewhere in this stubborn light Over the waves and troubles now I look out for yours like youʼll for mine So deep in the arms of the ocean now When the bird sees the solid ground
And now we leeway when still and so dark Peace in the sounds out here Thunder claps In the distance warm
Another one follows I count from afar I never get used to this First the flare Then the silence starts
Somewhere in this stubborn light Over the waves and troubles now I look out for yours like youʼll for mine So deep in the arms of the ocean now When the bird sees the solid ground
Iʼve been counting on The wind would know where Iʼm going to And when stillness comes around I ask what my heart would do About drifting around So deep in the arms of some ocean now
I see feathers on every wave From every old used to be Ones you loved Did you let them dream? I still lose it, I speak to myself I ask out in nothing too To the birds, why Iʼm singing still, am I singing still?
