playing jedi survivor has made the anakin / vader thoughts resurface, so i'm making it everybody's problem. sure, vader is scary, terrifiyng even, with his infamous suit and mask. but the suit / armor is also a horrorific thing in and of itself; it strips anakin of almost every ounce of body autonomy he had before mustafar, it keeps him in near constant pain (which, i think, is absolutely deliberate on palpatine's part. he needs anakin under his control, an angry and deadly dog.. but one that won't — can't — bite him). he can't sustain battle without his armor, and he can't survive at all without his mask and respiratory system breathing for him, but it's far from comfortable. he has made some changes himself, mainly giving the suit better protection against electricity (the original suit was suspiciously weak to force lightning) and upgrading the quality of the materials, but a completely new suit was unthinkable. a complete change would have possibly killed him, since it would have required his life support systems to be shut down. the only respite he can get is when enclosed in a high pressure chamber, which allows him to safely remove his helmet and armor.

while my general verse follows canon through episodes i-vi, i also have a main redeemed au for those that wish to explore it ( or would rather not write with a character like darth vader in the empire timeline, which is absolutely understandable ) ― which has two separate, possible routes. the gist remains the same: obi-wan remains on coruscant, whether because the council elects to send someone else to confront grievous or he speedruns the mission and returns before things are set in motion, idk. this is because i believe obi-wan is absolutely the crux to anakin remaining in the light. ( we see this when anakin frequently asks to speak to obi-wan when he's distressed, as the one person he trusts on the council and the only one he knows would make things make sense. it's strictly why palpatine was so resolute in separating them, trying to get anakin to distrust him, and even attempting to kill kenobi multiple times. ) when sidious reveals himself to anakin, certain he has planted enough dark seeds to take root in his mind, anakin leans on obi-wan while he breaks the news to mace. obi-wan grounds him. when anakin races to the chancellor's office while the masters confront him, obi-wan is at his side, and it is fully an angel-and-devil-on-your-shoulder situation. here's where the outcomes split. one: obi-wan tries to help mace apprehend sidious and is hurt, nearly killed, in the process. it flicks a switch deep in anakin's conscious, the one ruled by his heart and not his fear. sensing something amiss, sidious drops his facade entirely and kills mace, and advances on obi-wan whilst preaching to anakin about how the jedi have betrayed them. in a split-second decision, the hardest one of his life, anakin kills sidious. or believes he does. he speaks to obi-wan who attempts to soothe his fractured mind, and returns to the council while anakin runs to padmé, praying her fate has changed. knowing his life as a jedi is over, one way or another. the separatists send their official surrender within a few hours, shutting down droids across the galaxy, and anakin and padmé embark to naboo where they hope to raise their children in peace. it is a foolish dream. the dark shadow still lays heavy on the force and corruption is still ripe within the senate, where padmé and the delegation of 2,000 are not enough. the empire still rises, too many seeds planted. sidious still whispers in anakin's dreams. and then somebody activates the chips in clone troopers before it can be discovered and order 66 still commences. haunted, anakin tries to avoid war and bloodshed for the sake of his family, but danger lurks around every corner and he fears being found. he fears he had not truly killed the shadow, as he struggles to grasp the light. ( do we still rock with palpatine clones here? ) orrr, two: anakin and obi-wan help apprehend palpatine as a prisoner. anakin still wishes to learn from him, still fearing for padmé. obi-wan is set to watch sidious while the council gathers for an official trial, and anakin arrives amidst an attack on obi-wan's life in sidious' planned escape. the uncrossable line. anakin fights sidious off in a pinch of luck and escapes with obi-wan, though events still transpire exactly as they did in canon, just without anakin. as the clones turn on them, anakin and obi-wan flee, anakin harder than most: terrified now of what would happen if sidious catches his failed apprentice. for years, he and padmé hide and live in secret in outer reaches of the galaxy to keep their children safe. but as the twins' power begins to show and the empire's reach extends further and further, anakin struggles with the truth that he cannot outrun him forever. eventually, he must make a choice that could endanger his family, but save them all in the end. ANYWAYS ! those are just my two cents, anything can be plotted and expanded upon <33
