Small Icon Left of Title

A tiny icon beside a section title is not there to make the page cute. Its best job is wayfinding.

When a journal spread has several modules, the eye needs a quick place to land. A small mark to the left of each title gives every section the same entrance point before the reader has to process the words.

The placement rule

Keep the icon smaller than the title letters. Set it just to the left of the word, with enough breathing room that it does not touch the first letter.

The important part is alignment: place the icon on the title baseline, not floating above it. If the icon sits too high, it feels like a sticker. If it sits with the word, it feels like part of the header system.

Pick the icon by job

Use the simplest mark that explains the type of section.

Dot: quick note, tiny capture, one-line thought.

Clock: timed task, appointment, study block, routine.

Star: priority, highlight, one thing that matters.

Page tab: reference, saved idea, index, resource list.

Weather mark: mood, daily atmosphere, energy note.

Repeat the system

The icon does not need to be impressive. It needs to be consistent.

Repeat the same left edge, the same icon size, and the same gap before the title. Across a page, that repetition quietly teaches the reader where each section begins.

The advanced test is simple: blur your eyes and look at the spread. If the tiny marks form a clean vertical rhythm, they are doing their job. If every icon competes for attention, make them smaller and calmer.

Use icons as page navigation first. Decoration can come after the structure is already easy to scan.

Engaging with the community should be fun and relaxing. Not boring, or worse, annoying. People in this country should really learn how to live in a community where everyone would lend a helping hand to others, despite of their socio-cultural background.
