Mimzy might be the key to understanding Alastor in future seasons and the way the crew will get to him [I know how it sounds, I’m not kidding]
I'm posting this because this thought keeps buzzing around in my head after reading a fan post that talks about historical info that connects to Alastor (https://www.tumblr.com/alastors-totally-canon-deertail/801559251260702720?source=share) and when I saw this scene again in a random youtube clip:
[Sorry for the bad image quality for the two pics]
This is from Mimzy's point of view and while it probably means nothing it did make me think of her pov in a more metaphorical sense as well as Alastor's view of her (but we'll touch on that later).
Mostly because: Mimzy seems to be completely unafraid of Alastor and seems to see him as a bit of a pushover (or atleast treats him as such). And yet, she also is completely aware of who he is. Not just the charming show host but also the murderous side to him. It's not clear yet if she knew he was a killer when they were both alive but it's clear enough that she definitely knows in Hell how dangerous he is. To the point she uses it to her advantage (She uses it as a conversation topic and uses her connection to him as a way to improve her social standing). Alastor is a way to solve her problems and a way to get the fame and attention she wants (The piano scene makes it clear that while Mimzy is in the center of attention, everyone is more focused on Alastor and his playing). So she just uses Alastor to her benefit?
That's the complicated part. She obviously does but there's also certain things that can be read as her not JUST being selfish, that are interesting to think about:
Mimzy is the only person that doesn't initiate touch with Alastor but rather Alastor hugs her first while she just walks up to him with her arms open. Out of all people, MIMZY is the one waiting for Al to hug her first. Like she's aware and considerate of Al's dislike to touch (I've covered this in previous posts but just want to add it here too). Very rare and odd for someone extremely self-centered to do this for a friend she hasn't seen in years even if she was trying to get help from him.
She compliments Alastor's appearance a few times but never flirts with him. We see her flirt with a few men in the episode but not Alastor. And the compliments aren't really tied to her convincing Al so...it's something pretty interesting. Mimzy is incredibly vain so we can assume she puts value in a person's appearance so I think it says something that she compliments Alastor in that way but never mentions it as the reason they're friends (I mean, she could have said she met him in her club cause she thought he was cute but instead she focused on his drinking and dancing abilities).
She both reinforces the Radio Demon reputation with her lore story but at the same time humanizes her friend, Al, by explaining his behavior when he’s drinking and calling him a total sweetie.
She never calls Alastor her friend and knowing Al's opinion on friends in Hell... I just think it's unique that she never labels her dynamic with Alastor and lets others label it but gets mildly annoyed when they seem unsure of her connection to him (again, socially being connected to him gives her perks but the sweetie comment and the unlabeled thing would go against the benefits. The first humanizes him and makes seem less like a threat against your enemies and the second makes your relationship with him seem less strong, she could have just lied since Alastor wasn't around to correct her).
She calls him heartless (and many more insults) and physically touches him to annoy him, showing she knows his boundaries but will cross them when she’s mad. But also says a contradiction: Implies he only cares about himself but a few minutes before implied he liked helping her. So does she actually think Alastor's care for her is selfish or was this a hint that she knows something more personal about Alastor than we do (Why would Alastor be hurt by someone calling him these things when he wants to be seen that way? Because it was coming from Mimzy)?
[The season 2 scenes] Mimzy is shown to be very well dressed and famous enough that Al's, kinda intimidating, bosses might've let her do a radio special with him if/when she or Al asked (still no clue if that special happened when alive or in Hell) and that she could have worked in more "exclusive" jazz clubs. But instead she chooses to work and hang out in clubs that have more equality but less reputability in "higher" social circles. And in season 1 (her comment about "being around mixed company" kinda has more layers or atleast sounds different now) we see how she tries to schmooze people to possibly get things out of them. But despite all of that (Her greed and vain nature), she chooses to be close friends with a young mixed creole radio star and hang out in diverse crowds instead of constantly with rich white elites.
All of this is really interesting because it hints to a more complex history between the two. And how she views Alastor in a more human/person way than any other character we've seen so far (He's either a mystery, a monster, a threat, a ally, or something else, or a combination of the previous things). This could even be the case when they were alive. She sees his pretty charming face playing the piano but also possibly sees the murderous and dangerous side to him as well, and she seems fine enough with both to be willing to actually consider his dislike towards touch centuries after they've met and still see him as the same person she knew when alive.
But she's not the only one:
This is the same exact scene but from Alastor's side: he looks really happy to be with Mimzy and vice versa. There might be some good reasons for that; besides the stuff I already mentioned (She knows of his boundaries and usually respects them, she humanizes him when not everyone does, and accepts even the most dangerous sides of him with little to no fear, etc), there's also reasons Mimzy probably chooses to stick with him besides just fame and having a quick way to get out of trouble:
I've been to try avoid touching on stuff that isn't implicitly on the show/canon but this is a thing that's been mentioned throughout the years (including the last time being a interview from Viv after Season 1): Mimzy isn't likable to many. And no, not talking about the fandom, I mean in the story. We see that a lot of characters don't really like her in the episode (Besides Niffty and Al but we'll get to that) but the old lore/possibly still canon is that only Alastor really sees her charm and enjoys her company. I think this was still a thing when they were alive. She became famous due to her talent but I think her personality/behavior when alive was very similar to her behavior in Hell. So many "loved" her as a star but no one "liked" her as a person. Except Alastor. We're shown a few times throughout the show that Alastor enjoys people with strong wills that can also make themselves into something by themselves. He might've enjoyed seeing someone be unabashedly they’re cruel and selfish, but goal oriented like him, selves. Something he couldn't really do outside of his secret killings. And due to that he enjoyed being around her. Because in a world of fake politeness, real selfishness might be a breath of fresh air.
Due to him doing this and being around her so much, I also think he got to see another side of Mimzy rarely see: The actual human side. Despite her being as brutally herself as possible by default we see that she will put on an act if she thinks it'll help her get something (again a similarity we see she shares with him but does it to a lesser extent). But again, Mimzy has the capability to be considerate and willingness to put aside some selfishness in exchange for somethings or some people. And I think Alastor is the person she does it for the most (Something I haven't mentioned is...Niffty. She is nice to Niffty and tries to make friendly conversation with her but it's pretty clear she isn't that interested, and later talks about her like she's just a demon that cleans messes for Alastor. But still, she was more casual and nicer to her than most of the others. Why? Because she knows Niffty matters to Alastor. She can belittle and annoy Husk and schmooze or act with the rest. But she is friendly to Niffty).
So after writing ALL THAT, what was my point? Point simply being these two know each other better and longer than nearly any other characters (atleast sinner demons) in the show at the current moment. And they could be a way the audience and/or the hotel crew get to see the two in a new light. As well as a way to force the two to change their ways a bit: If Al says or does something that puts the whole hotel at risk WHILE his oldest ally, longest friend, AND only real connection to his mortal life is there...might make that decision even more difficult. And Mimzy doing something that genuinely and nearly permanently breaks her only real friendship (in life and in Hell) left, would probably be THE thing to make her consider bettering herself.
Just a thought.
