another reason i love alastor is because he's for the people with Disorders.
the absolute worst thing to ever ever EVER happen to a disordered person, especially those of us with anxiety based disorders (or disorders with a side effect of anxiety) is for our fears and/or unhealthy coping mechanisms to be validated. and in most media where a disordered character takes the focus, writers try to show them Not being validated, to show that the Disorder is Lying and you can get better!! the disorder is lying to you and you need to know that!
but alastor? oh hell no. every fear and maladaptive habit he has is validated over and over, and it just pushes him further into his poor coping mechanisms and one day it's gonna get him. oh it's gonna. analysis posted per the request of my honorable mutual @alastor-insanity, who got to hear all this first. when the dm reply reads "you should post this actually," who am i to refuse the call?
I know this ain't about her but this is kinda fun contrast to Charlie: She wants to help others but doesn't listen to them/misses HOW she ends up helping them. She thinks teamwork is important, but has a habit of refusing help or getting annoyed when people fail to help (but still tried), only for the people around her to continue to keep trying and she ends up noticing and thinks it reinforces HER mentality.
So, while Alastor has the mentality of "giving and receiving help will only make things worse for you, but doing it yourself will get the results you want", and gets results that reinforce that.
Charlie has the mentality of "Help is always an option and working together will always give the best results. While, doing things alone just makes everything worse", and SHE gets results that reinforce that.
If you want to compare mental health comparisons: It's a person who always had access to therapy/resources and around people who support/understand mental health issues vs A person who never had any resources and is surrounded by societal pressure to not show mental health issues (1900s asylums and hospitals were not great and Alastor is already a distrustful person).
One thinks it's easy/more possible to get healthy coping skills and change for the better for everyone from their experience (I think it says something that Charlie doesn't seem to understand WHY people commit sins/get addictions and assumes simply the action is bad and doing the opposite is the simple way of fixing it), the other believing it impossible and developing unhealthy coping skills (Alastor is a judgemental person but we have yet to see him mock anyone for just having an addiction).
Hazbin Hotel Pride Outfits time! (Part 2: The Vees + Angel Dust)
Aka, pretty accurate representation of how companies use Pride lol. This will mostly be Vox, tragically.
Vox:
This man is miserable, good lol. Anyways, it looks like the Vees (or atleast him vs Val and Vel) are more separated from each other since their outfits are barely matching and the three are doing their own thing much more. Including two important details: 1) Diamonds, Vox is the only one with a huge emphasis on diamons in his outfit, and the only one that might match him on the float is Angel Dust out of all people (Angel obviously is a very Vox-tec blue and we'll get to that later but the tail/back of his outfit is diamond shaped if the bottom of it is anything to go by). And 2) the glitter effect on his sleeves and pants aren't a Vox-tec thing...It's what the HOTEL CREW did for their hotelier outfits. I'm guessing it's to mimic Alastor or to be compared/contrasted to the leader of the hotel crew, Charlie. Still interesting choice. Aside from his outfit (he does look good in it, and personal bias: anything with diamond motifs is a quick favorite of mine), he continue to be the one in merch who seems to have hangups about his sexuality. People have said Alastor looks annoyed or bored because he has internalized bigotry but it would be a first for his pride merch so I don't think that's a reason. Vox, however is always like this. With him even trying to hide his flag behind him and not waving it in the slightest.
Valentino:
...It's a sin that I like his outfit more than Velvette's and that his outfit looks the most fun to wear to a pride event. Boo (positive). Anyways I like his outfit, especially the use of color and how a lot of it is about the colors fading into each other. Works well with the face that his powers are smoke-related and he wants to mimic a lot of stuff from Asmodeus. And, probably not purposefully, the specific shades they picked makes me also think of 1970s Florida so that is a fun detail too.
Velvette:
Insert that meme with Obi-wan sadly saying Anakin was the chosen one. Because...I love Velvette, but her outfits are very 50/50 (sometimes really great, sometimes huge flops) when you look at them. And I can tell it's the general issue of having a high fashion/runway looks character but not being created/designed by people who are really into high fashion/runway fashion. Her top could have been cute but it blends too much with the lapels of her jacket because they're touching and are the same exact colors (just make them a darker or lighter shade). And since her top has so much going on with two different colorful patterns it makes the bottom of her outfit look empty or dull in comparison. And I get that the gloves (they would have been fine if they weren't the exact same color as her sleeves) and socks are part of her constant design like her skull earrings but like...you could have easily made her socks have the lesbian flag pattern instead of giving halloween. Worst of all, I love her hair. She has an incredibly cute hairstyle but it comes with one of her worst looks (I'm this close to drawing my own take of her pride outfit because the artists, they don't meant to, sometimes do my girl dirty. And making her outfits kinda bad).
Angel Dust:
Speaking about being done wrong, poor Angel. Besides looking physically and emotionally uncomfortable he is also wearing a disaster of an outfit. Though, I'm guessing this time it is purposeful to show how uncomfortable he is and how he is wearing something he isn't. He literally looks something being presented (especially with the weird "best in show" styled hairclip and that prom dress looking tail). The top looks fine but again, the advertising for Vox-tec has to be the "best part". The bottom looks weird (not on purpose, they prob just saw it on a runway outfit and thought it looked stylish).
So...The Vees are fine but their problems are a lot more obvious than the Hotel's and Heaven's in their fashion and I hope to see that drama in the next season.
Hazbin Hotel Pride Outfits time! (Part 1: Hotel Crew)
First off: Really wish there was solo merch. Besides for personal reasons it also would make looking at the individual outfits WAY easier.
Secondly: I know some people don't like the uniforms because it's more suits however...They're hotel uniform outfits and I have been DYING for atleast one time for the characters to look like they work in a hotel (plus I just like cute uniforms in general). Plus, I think the designs aren't that unique or complex, but they do feel like costumes or outfits that come from a broadway-type musical about a hotel so it does fit with Hazbin's overall style. I won't defend the Adida pant stripes, I get that it was to match the cuffs but it looks...
Charlie
Her outfit is the one that made me think the most that this uniform decision was to match some musical theater styling. I think it's also, probably one of my favorite outfits of the group! I really like that even though the suit is simple the color picking is neat! I'm really glad they didn't try to put the actual Bi purple color and instead went with a lighter purple which helps it stand out more against the blue and magenta. Also her little hat looks silly, but in a very cute/Charlie way which I don't mind.
Vaggie:
BEST WOMEN'S (and possibly in general or out of all Hazbin Hotel Lesbian representation) OUTFIT. Fight Me. The Adidas stripes look fine on her since they aren't the same color and work with the black parts of the outfit well. Also, even though she is wearing a similar top to Charlie and Alastor to show her higher position she also has bellhop hat to show that she helps with day-to-day hotel stuff too (also the hat is just cute in general and I like how it looks with her bow). One day I will post my tierlist of how fashionable the Hazbin's characters are because I genuinely think Vaggie does usually have nice outfits.
Alastor:
I added his card expression to because I at first thought he was annoyed or bored but with the fact that he's holding his hat and his pose I think he's actually just being smug. Not sure why exactly but I do think it's something neat (usually in pride merch he seems to be just casually going with the flow so this is a change of pace). Anyways I like his outfit too, but I do think the stripes go back to being boring with the rest of the group (except for one). I will always love the return of different colored eyeshadow for Alastor and I like the fact that his hat has a different way of showing the flag colors than Charlie (it's more to the side). Though one question: I hadn't realized this before but...How can he change his microphone color? Does he paint it or use magic or??
Husk:
Ok, so I was gonna make a joke about how I've been weirdly enjoying Husk's depressed era (don't ask me why, I don't know why), but um...Why does the card have him with a trans hat? I would VERY happy to have some trans-man or trans-masc representation but in the standee AND the keychain he has a different hat so...Weird error or something we'll find out in the future? (I mean, either way it means I get to enjoy some new trans Husk headcanons, and the same card also accidentally made it look like there was a Agender flag/ship behind Alastor so... A win is a win I guess lol). OH AND THE OUTFIT! Nearly, forgot but I think he looks kinda funny in it (a fun colorful outfit for a heartbroken old man), but it overall looks fine. I do wish we saw his more pink side since I think he usually looks better in warmer colors but blue's ok too (he is "blue" after all...hehe...sorry). [UPDATE: the official site, has an image of the card and Husk's hat is a pan flag again. Atleast, I still got my accidental Agender boat lol]
Niffty:
Man, I sure do love not getting any solo standees, which means if I want a pic of Niffty (or god forbid a standee of her in this cute outfit) I just gotta either zoom in like crazy or not get it. Sarcasm. Anyways, I like how even though her outfits are just being a Straight Ally, they are never dull and always fun in some way. And also...out of the Radio Trio, my favorite one and the only one that makes the cuffs look cute on them due to her cuffs being huge on her tiny bug hands. (Also, is her hair longer or is it just the artstyle?)
Baxter:
First, yes, I'm also a bit annoyed that the trans headcanon isn't confirmed yet, but I still got hope. I'm assuming this kind of outfit as well as Emily's (we'll get to that in a later post) is either another kind of ally outfit or unlabeled/Queer outfit. Besides that...It's fine. It IS dorky and I think that's cute but I do wish he had more of the mad scientist fashion still continuing a bit.
Cherri Bomb:
Unironically, genuinely...I feel so betrayed. She had such a fun but messy (what I expect from a chaotic party girl) outfit and I genuinely thought "if these characters had solo standees this would be the first time I would buy Cherri Bomb's standee cause her outfit looks so cool...But those shoes are so dumb, man. Why are they white? Why are they giving off geeky kid vibes. They just don't fit the rest of the outfit and it bugs me in such a specific way I can't describe (like seeing a surfer wear a scally cap).
Lucifer:
Hisoutfitisneatfitshischaracter- SO UH THE BOWTIE. This isn't a Husk hat situation and unlike his suit which could have trans colors because it's so pastel his bowtie is PURPOSEFULLY not pans colors and is like that on the standee, keychain, AND CARD. The bowtie is yellow but it looks like the black of the bow (not the middle of it) has a purple-ish tint. So...Is this revealing Lucifer is Non-binary or Intersex? Or a different thing? Either way, I like his outfit for him. It fits his theater geek/dorky dad vibes.
Sam Haft confirming that Alastor just genuinely sees strength as not needing anyone and not being needed by anyone is so interesting.
Becasue I already knew Alastor genuinely saw needing others as an inherent weakness; everything he said to Vox about that was genuinely his opinion, not just something to get under Vox's skin. And it's the main reason they would never have been compatible as partners, because Alastor doesn't do partners.
But the second part of also "not being needed by anyone" defintely puts an interesting spin on a lot of his relationships, particularly with Mimzy. Because the implication there is that he has never kept her around because he likes feeling needed; in fact, he's probably continued their relationship despite her constantly asking him for favors because he genuinely found her fun and entertaining to be around.
It's also a good window into why Niffty and Alastor get along so well; Niffty is very attached to Alastor, but she doesn't need him in any sense he would consider consequential. She's very capable of handling herself. The only time we've ever seen him help her directly was apparently fishing her out of a toilet and if he put up with all of Mimzy's bullshit, that's a VERY small price to pay for the bond they share.
I also think this is why Alastor and Vox initially worked so well—Alastor was under the impression that Vox was like-minded in his view of strength. And they genuinely enjoyed each other's company. But once Vox made it clear that he wanted something more than that, Alastor was caught off-guard and got very nasty about it like he always does when he feels out of control of the situation.
Yes! The Pride merch outfit is cute!!
The Valentine’s merch this year was…not really my thing, but from the one promo pic we just got the outfits actually look kinda cute! (Maybe I do just hate mostly white with pastel colors, cause these outfits are more simple but they got COLORS and that’s enough to make me prefer them lol)
The Original Rainbow Pride Flag (1978) by Gilbert Baker.
About Alastor's tolerance for burning his mouth... So I was writing a Husk fanfic and looked up food he prob ate throughout the decades in Las Vegas (1950s-70s)...Spicy food wasn't too popular, and black chefs DID cook spicy recipes but it wasn't that common either...I bring to you:
Husk being the only one in the Radio Trio (Niffty is masochistic so burning her mouth means nothing and Japanese culture has a decent amount of spicy food) with a normal heat tolerance. Grown ass old man who can drink vodka is crying from eating the same spicy food as a 20-something lil bug lady and a deer twink.
Ha! That is hilarious!
Husk looks at the food Alastor cooks and thinks he can absolutely handle it. He drink straight liquor right from the bottle, no chaser.
What’s a little spicy food?
Only for him to be laid out by the first bite, while Niffty and Alastor are utterly unaffected.
Of course he eats it all outta sheer stubbornness but he dies a little inside with each bite.
(Also thanks for the interesting history tidbit! I’m definitely gonna look more into that!)
I don’t think there is any other Alastor smile in the show that sticks with me like this smile.
I think it’s the most haunting smile we’ve seen from Alastor thus far.
There’s so much being said in this one smile. The grim acceptance , the stubborn defiance.
The emphasis of the death mark on his forehead. The way his eyes narrow so the smile takes up more of his face.
The way his smile widens when Vox expresses his wish to wipe it away.
The situation is hopeless. There’s no clear escape plan. He’s hurt, helpless, and the sole target of a madman with nothing left to lose.
And yet, he’s still smiling.
He’s currently staring utter annihilation in the face and yet he remains stubborn, staying proud and defiant to the bitter end.
(But still undoubtedly terrified beneath it all.)
I've seen a lot of theories going off the old concept that Malvada or Roo is one of Alastor's parents but... Do you know what southern families and Eldritch horror have? Strong focus on lineages and things, even if it's old traditions, being passed down. I'm putting my money it'll be like one of his grandparents or possibly older
I can see this being possible!
Someone taught Alastor contacting the afterlife was possible and if it wasn’t his Mama it definitely had to be a grandparent.
The theme for s3 focuses heavily on family. I expect to learn more about Alastor’s family as well.
( we really do put a lot of emphasis on lineages and traditions down in the south. I feel kinda seen)
Small update: Do not expect anything TADC from me in the future and I might delete my posts about it as well.
Main Reason: The creator is somehow a bigger disaster than others (including the obvious) and more malicious if certain things are believed, the VAs are very flippant about serious issues and only some apologized for racist jokes and all but one never addressed working with a KNOWN white supremacist and child groomer (BlackGryphon).
Minor Reason: I saw the leak and after rewatching the show realized that it just wasn't worth talking about anymore (and again, seeing how Gooseworks ACTUALLY is, makes certain things bad in retrospect) and that maybe Glitch Production's creations aren't worth talking about in general.
Before it's mentioned: If Spindlehorse Studios ever reaches the same level, I'll probably do the same or atleast stop posting about it.
I can't get over just how good of a character Alastor is.
At first he seems like the typical heartless, evil, psychopathic, sadistic, monstrous killer villain.
Even the people in the show call him these things too! Charlie says he's protecting the hotel in a sadistic way. Angel says he sold his soul to a psychopathic freak, to which Husk responds that he did as well.
And then we take into account that he's aroace.
The villain who doesn't feel any sexual gratification or feels any romantic love is one society is familar with.
He's also touch repulsed, which adds to that theme too.
These traits are used to other the villain. To suggest to the audience "they're not like you. They're not really human".
They are used to dehumanize a villain. To make him seem greater or more evil.
But in real life, being touch-, sex- and romance-repulsed are entirely neutral traits.
We just live in a society that is built for neurotypical people. That thinks everyone should be in a straight, monogamous marriage.
But not everyone fits into this world, so they become outcasts. How do you live in a world that says your way of living is wrong?
Alastor is all of these things Hollywood as taught us to fear. To hate. He is a literal demon! He has killed! He enjoys killing!
And yet
And yet we fans care about Alastor. We want him to get better or we root for him or want to see him humbled or be challenged.
The point is, Alastor doesn't strike the audience as this big bad evil of unimaginable horrors we can't even comprehend.
Maybe he wants to be. But he isn't.
He's antagonistic in times. A villain arc might be on his way.
But we still see Alastor as a person. A person with humanity. There is more beneath that smile.
Alastor is humanizing the demonized
Whats up with the Radiotrio + Alastor's end game goal 🃏🎙🪡📝🗣⏳️❤️🖤
A one hour video by yours truly that sort of puts together everything we have so far.
A TedTalk about my favorite trio in the Helluvaverse...I might watch that.
Joking aside, I think the video was great and made me realize a few things I didn't think about before!
Unfortunately, it made me want to yap about more stuff with you lol. But I won't make this reblog about my points.
The actual important thing is: Check this out if you want to watch a video about the Radio Trio that's really fun :)
The funny day where you are witnessing a fandom you aren’t a part of have a civil war over an overtly decisive finale (personally: I would consider it pretty shit, but you do you) AND you do understand how they feel since you’ve been in their shoes but you can’t feel too upset because you suddenly get good stuff happen to your own respective fandom in the way of cute merch.
It’s like watching a car crash into a nice shop and everyone is arguing (shop owner w/ car owner w/ cops, etc) and you know it’s a really bad situation but at the same time someone gifted you a box of cookies (or whatever dessert you like). Mixed emotions but also cookies.
I'm begging to see more fight scenes with alastor in the next seasons, he was so badass in the final !! 😫😫😫😫
Like, I want to see him win. But FULLY WIN ! I want all his aura back !!
The vox humbling was not enough for my heart, I need him to be the grand and scary and all power radiodemon, and beat a VERY POWERFUL menace !! (Without being almost double dead 💔)
I know I'm living in delululand but still, I need this 😩🥀
I need this more than I need oxygen!
I need us to be reintroduced to the Alastor we saw in Vaggi and Mimzy’s tale.
I need the Alastor that strikes fear in Overlords heart!
I need him to let everyone know why you shouldn’t mess with the Radio Demon!
I need schemes and deals and eldritch horror!
I need unchained, no rage contained, menacing on main Alastor!
Fanfic idea/detail/headcanon in case anyone wants it:
[I don't really have a story to go with this idea I just like coming up with comparisons and stuff that symbolizes stuff]
Basically the idea is how Alastor and Vox treat their pets is how they treat or view the souls they own/the people they keep around them in general.
Alastor with how he would treat his "pet" gators (assuming he has them): His alligators aren't dependent on him nor completely obedient to him, they might even snap at him a few times! But they do always return to him because he offers free food and a safe place away from the other predators and dangers of the Bayou. In return, they can't try to kill him (atleast not often enough to get on his nerves) and have to atleast occasionally listen to him. I also think they develop a kinda symbiosis relationship because of all this and a more animalistic type of "loyalty and respect" (not the real things but animal equivalent: "Loyalty" = I survive better if this deer thing is around so I prefer him around and "Respect" = Just the basic understanding that Alastor could kill them if he sees them as a threat but still is a food source and protector of some kind). And Alastor also keeps in mind that if he's not too careful his actions will lead to the whole dynamic falling apart or turning against him (If he's too passive the gators will turn on him and start seeing him possible prey, if he's too aggressive they'll leave the bayou completely, try to avoid him, or again attack him out of self-defense). Still, if a gator tries to attack him too many times or is overeating his prey or something similar, Alastor will either kill it or throw it out of the bayou with no issue.
Vox and his pet sharks (Probably Vark too, sad to say):Vox is the opposite or close to it, His sharks are (literally, if their designs are anything to go by) wired to be obedient to him and only him. But he also created a perfect tank to keep them in, where they would need nothing and live safely under his supervision and control. But, if they ever disobey or disappoint him he would either rewire them or just outright kill and replace them.
Neither are great options obviously both have limited freedom and put the lives of the animals (and people) in the hands of the owner. But in different ways with different severities.
This actually came from a conversation where people were talking about how creepy it would be if it was revealed or shown Vox killing Vark (a pre-show land shark pet he had) in the actual show. And I realized the situation he would do that wouldn't be out of the question since his care/love seems very conditional and self-centered. So what would he do if Vark (HIS dream pet that HE always took care of personally) started to show more loyalty or care to someone else and he couldn't get Vark to prefer him more no matter what treats or toys Vox gave him? I think it would be in-character for him to get pissed and jealous enough to kill him. Because to him, that would be seen as the ultimate betrayal. Meanwhile, I can't see Alastor caring much because in the end of the day, it would still be HIS gators in HIS bayou. He would still have the control he wants in the end of the day with little care about the gator's preference. If the "gator" did start attacking him however due to the preference THEN I can see him considering it an issue or a hassle but not before. (The gator in that scenario is more about a possible scenario we might see in future seasons with a certain ship)
I basically think all the Overlords treat their souls differently but this comparison was very Radiostatic focused because I think these two are the only Overlords we know with possible pets lol.
Updated but not serious addition now that we see even more on how Vox treats his sharks, showing he's a dog person. I will now offer, Alastor treats his bayou creatures like he's a cat or horse person:
Vox who literally babies them and loves them to the point of spoiling. And Shok.wav addresses him as his dad: "Who's a good boy? You are! Precious widdle guy!"
Alastor, who speaks to Shok.wav despite hating the thing and begrudingly cares about the few people he cares about: "This one is Buster, he's stupid and tries to bite me when I'm feeding him. If he ever succeeds in attacking me, I'm turning him into jerky. He's alive due to luck and I hate him" (While petting him the entire time).
I just thought it be funny if Alastor was the complete opposite with how he treated his animals but with no less a kind of love for them. You can consider this a correction of the former post if you want or if you don't.
Why are the Vees not respected by the other overlords?
This is a question that keeps going through my mind because the reason I, and many other people go with, might not be as accurate after what we learn in Season 2 and what has been hinted to happen in Season 3.
The reason being: "Because they're the new comers/modern!" But... I don't think that's the case now that we've seen more of the Overlords and their opinions.
Carmilla uses the most up to date technology, Zeezi has a fairly modern style and taste, and the cowboys (Prick and Hatchet) don't even seem to run a business or act professional in anyway.
And yet the Overlord's reaction to The Vees (who have been powerful, successful and popular for the latest decades) is this:
And even when the agree to team up with the Vees, they don't seem to like Vox at all and the other Vees don't seem that close to any other Overlord (We see Val send a text to angel about a "film" idea that requires Zeezi's dino demons. But the only time we see that he might bring it up is during the finale's table scene, meaning he doesn't have her phone.
So... Why do all the Overlords dislike them/disrespect them so much?
In comparison, this is how they talk about a Overlord who has been gone for 7 years, constantly killed their fellow overlords, and doesn't seem to take much of being an Overlord too seriously (he doesn't seem to directly care much about his territories or any business he runs. He doesn't even have a real schedule for his radio show:
The fact that they see Alastor being defeated as a possible thing that "shakes the foundations" and the first person they think that can defeat him is Lucifer (KING OF HELL) says something.
And yes, they do also say stuff to mock him but when he can't hear them and it's more focused on how he might've been defeated (also how did NONE of the Overlords say one negative thing towards him when they saw him tied to a chair defeated). Only Carmilla insults him passive-aggressively but still welcomes him back and his seating his pretty close to the head of the table (while the Vees are at the very end of the table).
And remember, Alastor is an active threat to other Overlords. While the Vees seem to work with other Overlords a lot more casually or try to be polite towards them for business reasons.
The only thing I can come up with is that they might've not fought for their territory/positions. We can assume that Vox could have made his start on his own and maybe the other Vees are seen riding his coattails. But, VOX is the one that is the LEAST liked by other Overlords not the other two. It's possibly because they come off as insecure/trying too hard but again, I don't know.
This isn't really a theory post so much as me asking you guys what YOU think about it (other detail is that even former Overlords seem to specifically think bad about them like they have seen evidence of their failure before. Husk I get, he was an Overlord and works for Alastor so he's seen them enough times, but Zestial? What clued Zestial in on the fact that Vox is more selfish and untrustworthy than other Overlords besides just gathered up wisdom over the years?).
