The only reason I have a playlist for them is because there were way too many toxic love songs on Natasha’s playlist and there were sadly enough to make their own. This playlist does kinda slap though, ngl.
Bad Decisions - Bastille

‘Wren, isn’t this on the Danatole playlist?’ You cry desperately! Yes it is. I just think the quoted lyric has “then I’ll go to my ruin” vibes but I’m not going to pretend I don’t think about the rat whores every time I hear this song. This is objectively the worst choice for this playlist because of my own mental associations but I also think opening an Anatasha playlist as seeing the first song titled BAD DECISIONS really sets the tone for the way I feel about these two.
I Knew You Were Trouble. - Taylor Swift
“The worst part of it all wasn’t losing him. It was losing me.”
Ok yes that’s from the monologue before the actual song but it fits! This song is all about “I KNOW you’re bad for me and this isn’t gonna end well but I’m gonna do it anyway <3 oh look it didn’t end well *pretends to be shocked but is also in pain*” which is very Them. Fun fact this is the Only Taylor Swift song I actually like.
Drumming Song - Florence + The Machine
“As I move my feet towards your body I can hear this beat, it fills my head up”
No one comment on the feet. Don’t do it. Anyway, I’m gonna quote the Genius lyrics page for this because it’s so. Yeah this is Natasha with Anatole. “This is about when there’s that electricity between you, and a boy, and it’s completely unspoken. When they’re standing in front of you and you can’t breathe, can’t think, can’t do anything properly.” There’s also an element of fear, or at least being overwhelmed, to the song which I feel works very well.
Everytime We Touch - Cascada
“Without you it’s hard to survive”
LOOK. LOOK. It’s about the completely naive over-the-top unrealistic expectations of perfection from the romantic relationship. Also, it’s hilarious. And the parallels of the quoted lyric and “My fate is sealed: to be loved by you or die” - unironically it works, okay. I didn’t think of this until I wrote it down but “every time we kiss I swear I could fly” vs the flying away part in No One Else...I am NOT going to get sad over Everytime We Touch lyrics and Great Comet I’m NOT going to do it. Oh also Max said Anatole makes MS Paint AMVs to this song and I still haven’t recovered from that concept.
Jar of Hearts - Christina Perri
“I wish I had missed the first time that we kissed”
^ Because it led to bad outcomes but ALSO because she literally repeatedly said no before he kissed her so 🔪. Overall this song is just like oh you treated me terribly! Yes Natasha sing your breakup songs! Also “I hear you’re asking all around if I am anywhere to be found” and Anatole insisting on talking to Natasha after the elopement fails...it tracks
Moral of the Story - Ashe
“Blindsided, addicted, felt we could really do this but really it was foolish”
I feel like that sums up the whole elopement plot very succinctly. It’s all about falling for the wrong person which. Yeah.
Perfect Picture - Bea Miller
“How did you make my world come crashing down?”
The vibe of this one is Oh I love you so much!! Everything I enjoyed in my previous life is worthless now because of you <3 which isn’t super healthy Nat! “You made my perfect picture look like black and white” makes sense in the context of Anatole’s existence making her relationship with Andrei seem less important and/or fulfilling. This song is framed as something positive but underneath that, it’s someone letting a crush she has take the joy out of her previous life.
Dracula - Bea Miller

“Yeah I’ll let you ruin my life willingly because ur hot <3”

The singer’s complete lack of care for the girl who was super in love with him... hi Anatole! I know there’s discourse over whether or not Anatole actually loved Natasha, but either way you can’t deny he was incredibly careless with her feelings. I’m sure it will shock none of you to learn that I don’t think Anatole was in love with her (perhaps he thought he was, that’s a little thornier), so I’m going with “I don’t love you I’m just passing the time” as a line for them. AND “if I knew how to lie” is a very Anatole line; he’s not intentionally manipulative he’s just Like That.
Blinding - Florence + The Machine
“No more dreaming like a girl, so in love”
I think her thing with Anatole signals the end of her naïveté and childishness, which is encapsulated in that lyric. Again, I’m gonna quote Genius lyrics - it’s about “love and pain in our vulnerable youth”.
Cursed - Lord Huron
“I don’t know how to right the wrongs I’ve done, she bends the wills of men for fun”
Anatole is nowhere near as smart, powerful, or cool as the #girlboss this song is actually about, but it does have the vibes of “I did some bad things for the love of this person that wasn’t really love and now I want to undo those things”. The song doesn’t work that well but I’m kind of unwilling to remove it for some reason. It’s on another playlist where it fits better but. It’s here too I guess
Destroyer - Saint Motel
“I’m quite aware it was a doomed affair from the start”
“I don’t break hearts (I destroy them)” pack it up Anatole! Also the singer’s awareness that the relationship probably won’t end well makes sense for those two.

This is kinda post-elopement vibes but it’s also very self-indulgent. I think Natasha should get to be glad that she dropped Anatole <3

Stupid impromptu badly thought out wedding time! I also hate this song so it makes me feel the proper emotions for this pairing.

It’s about someone using their power over someone else to hurt them...alright! I know Anatole didn’t do that intentionally, but it still happened.
Dark Paradise - Lana Del Rey
“All my friends tell me I should move on, I’m lying in the ocean singing your song”
This whole song reminds me so strongly of that part after Anatole’s been caught and right before/around the time she tries to commit suicide. She’s clinging to the idea of him but it’s very sad and bleak. The friends telling her to move on are of course Marya D and Sonya.
However! In a cruel twist of fate, this could also be an Andrei/Natasha song, especially with “I’m scared that you won’t be waiting on the other side” since a huge part of her leaving him is just. Wishing he was there but he isn’t. In this case, the friends would be Hélène and maybe Anatole. Suffice it to say I lose my mind over this song and Natasha.

Accepting love that is actively hurting you check! This is also just my go-to unhealthy relationship song honestly

I’m not picking a lyric but the whole thing is about a girl caring so much about an unfaithful boy who doesn’t care about her nearly as much as she cares about him, but she can’t see that. :(

I have zero recollection of adding this song and I had to Google the lyrics because I don’t know any of them but good news! It fits really well! The whole thing as a cohesive song doesn’t flow for them but there are a lot of isolated lyrics that do. Please see: “you look like my next mistake”, “it’s gonna be forever or it’s gonna go down in flames”, and “got a long list of ex-lovers, they’ll tell you I’m insane” (that last one is for Anatole specifically).
Girlfriend - Avril Lavigne
