"This moment here. This is all you get. Begore you are part of the sky." Just finished reading "Anatomy of a Misfit" by Andrea Portes. No lie, I cried a bit. Chapter one pretty much tells you something major happens, and parts of it is repeated throughout the book. It's a story of a girl who cares what people think and she falls for a boy who doesn't fit in. But there's more to it than that, and I apologize to all my past English teachers when I say. It's hard to explain because I'm not good with words. Lol I guess you'll just have to read it to find out 😜 #YAreads #EpicReads #AnatomyofaMisfit #biblio #bookdragon #booklover #bookish #bookworm #yabooks #AndreaPortes
"Ceaseless. Almost too much for this small frame. You make me part of the sky." 💚 -- Gah! This book! I have mixed emotions about this one. First I was mildly bored and annoyed at the MC. Then the next thing I knew, I was laughing out loud and rooting for #TeamLogan. 😂😂 But the *twist* left me speechless and brokenhearted. You, sneaky little thing, you. 😭💔 Rating: 3 out of 5 -- ✅Read a young adult book // #2017readingchallenge #bbchallenge -- #book #ebook #reading #fiction #youngadult #yalit #AnatomyofaMisfit #AndreaPortes #bookworm #booklove #booknerd #igreads #bookstagram #aldiko

Anatomy of a Misfit By Andrea Portes
Anatomy of a Misfit reminds me of a poem written by Roland Dempster entitled Africa's Plea. The poem goes like this:
I am not you –
but you will not
give me a chance
will not let me be me
‘If I were you’ –
but you know
I am not you,
yet you will not
let me be me.
You meddle, interfere
in my affairs
as if they were yours
and you were me.
You are unfair, unwise,
foolish to think
that I can be you,
talk, act
and think like you.
God made me me.
He made you you.
For God’s sake
Let me be me.
The poem is about suppression. It's about someone who is forced to do something that's against his will, someone whose freedom to be himself is taken away. The subject of the poem cannot do what he want because he's afraid of the suppressor. He is begging to the suppressor that he wants to be who he really is and he wants to do what he want and that he should let him.
It's very similar to the protagonist of the novel named Anika. Anika is forced to do rude things just so Becky, the most popular girl in school and also her "friend", will not ditch her and do rude things to her. She can't do what she want and she can't be herself because of Becky. She is afraid of Becky, everyone in their school is. Becky is the meanest person she knew and she is aware of what Becky could do to her (e.g. ruining her name and making her life miserable) so she just do things according to Becky's will. Not that she can't do anything about it. She can. Logan, her boyfriend, knows it, even her mother. The only problem is herself. She is a coward because she didn't do anything to stand up to Becky. She didn't do anything to stop her. She just let her rule the whole school.
The most annoying part is when she didn't fight her love for Logan. She kept their relationship a secret because she's afraid of what Becky would say and do! Also, I think she's ashamed about their relationship because she is the third most popular girl in their school and Logan is a misfit nerd. And the worst thing is he even ditch Logan for Jared Kline, the most popular guy in their town. Jared is nice but she doesn't love him. Yet, she dated him to protect herself from Becky. She's so selfish! She didn't think of what Logan would feel about it. It was devastating because it was too late when she realize all of it. Logan was gone. He died.
The novel also reminds me of the movie Mean Girls. The three characters in the novel Becky, Shelli, and Anika are very similar to the ‘The Plastics’, the three mean girls of the movie.
Once in my life. I had been an Anika too. I was this plastic girl who back stab her friend to please her other friend, who was more popular and intelligent. It was fun at first. Later, I realized that this girl is more loyal and true to me. Thankfully, it isn't too late when I realize it. Now, our friendship bacame better, and she became one of my best friends.
I wonder why Becky is so mean to the people around her? I think there's a reason behind it. What would she do after Anika stood up against her? After Brad Kline found out that Becky tried to hook up with his brother Jared, what would he do?
After Logan died, I think Anika will focus more and do better in her studies. After what she did to her speech, which is telling everyone every bad things Becky did, I think Becky will transfer to another school because of embarrassment. But before that, I think she'll plan something to take revenge to what Anika did to her but she won't be able to do it because Jared will protect Anika. Also, I'm hoping that Anika will give Jared a chance. Jared is a good person and I think he will treat her better because he knew that Anika is different from all the girls he dated. I'm hoping that they will be together in the right time.
Part II
Tell how would you react if you were one of the characters in the story. Describe the part that surprised you. Did you have similar experience?
"Shelli Schroeder. Number two. She’s my best friend even though she’s kind of a slut."
If I were Shelli, instead of just making out to rocker guys all the time, I would persuade Anika to stand up against Becky. If I won't be able to convince her, I will be brave and do it myself. Becky is a monster. What she was doing is too much to bear. She was ruining everyone's life, for fun! So instead of just sitting in the corner and be a coward, I will do anything to stop her. I know it won't be easy. If I won't be successful, at least I tried. I know there are a lot of people who hates Becky. So, if I will make a move, I know I will inspire those people to have courage to stand against her.
I was surprised when Logan died. It was unexpected. Logan is a good person. Yet, he was the one who suffered all those bad things. He have a very selfish and irresponsible father who beat him all the time. His girlfriend Anika ditch him for a more popular guy, which hurt him so much. After all he experienced, it was devastating he's the one who died. But I think what happened to him is better because all of his sufferings have ended. He won't be able to feel all the pain anymore.
So far, I haven't experience to lose someone who is as important as Logan to Anika. Losing someone who is important to you is very painful. And I don't think I can bear the pain. I know all of us will experience that one. I feel fortunate and grateful that I haven't experience it so far.
