Feb. 15: A friendship you’d like to see developed
This is easy.
Daisuke & Mimi
During 02, Mimi is only in a few episodes. She visits Japan once, they meet her in the Digital World once, and then Daisuke meets up with her in New York during the World Tour. And as for other media, the only person she interacts with in Diablomon Strikes Back is Koushiro (I mean, I’m all for some Koumi, but still), and obviously the 02 kids aren’t in tri.
As my favorite female character, it just freaking sucks how little she’s in the show compared to the other original group. But it really sucks because Mimi and Daisuke would be amazing friends.
Think about it.
They’re both extraverted, enthusiastic people-pleasers. Well, they try to please people, and frankly, they usually both fail pretty hard because they can both come off as pretty selfish and silly.
They’re both emotional, strong-willed and determined, not afraid to speak their mind, and also incredibly compassionate and caring about their loved ones. They too often wear their heart on their sleeves, and way too often, people refuse to take them seriously.
They both exude confidence in themselves and their beliefs, often to the point where it’s over the top and seems excessive. And yes, they are both confident who they are and who they want to be, but this also comes from a desire not to appear vulnerable, despite the fact that they are very emotionally vulnerable people.
They are both in a position to understand each other on a level that many of the other Chosen Children don’t. Daisuke especially struggles with constantly being underestimated and misunderstood because of his position as the leader, and Mimi definitely struggles with that in Adventure. He could learn a lot from her experience.
Hell, they could learn a lot from each other regardless.
But mostly, in each other, they could find camaraderie and a meaningful friendship because they understand each other on a fundamental level. They could be bosom friends.
Although they only met three times in 02, it was apparently enough that Mimi invites Daisuke (and Wallace) to spend the summer with her in the kind-of-but-not-really-canon Door to Summer drama CD. Of course, the story is overtaken by plot, so there isn’t much actual interaction there, but I love that their previous meetings were enough for her to invite him to America for the summer. That’s adorable.
Okay, now look at the Last Evolution poster.
LOOK AT THEM!
They’re both so enthusiastic and upbeat, throwing their arms in the air in excitement and grinning. They’re doing the same fucking pose. (Along with V-mon. lol)
And of course, who’s standing next to them?
Their introverted, nerdy boyfriends with their insect Digimon, whose Ultimate forms, HerculesKabuterimon and GranKuwagamon, are the two most powerful insect Digimon.
In their profiles for Last Evolution, they are the only two characters who travel the world regularly, though Mimi travels via jet and Daisuke via Digital Gates.
And as a final note, as much as I dislike half the epilogue, you really can’t ignore that both of them went into the food business. Mimi hosts a cooking show, and Daisuke runs a ramen cart.
How am I not supposed to want them to be the best of friends?
And my latest kiss prompt for @sakurarebin. Again, this can be found on AO3 here.
So this is for prompt #14:
A kiss so desperate that the two wind around each other, refusing to let go until they are finished.
Leaning against his motorcycle, Yamato toyed with the half-smoked cigarette between his fingers, impatience coursing through his body.
Taichi's class must've been running late.
He finished the cigarette, then smashed the butt into his pouch ashtray and secured it to dispose of later.
Only when he was about to pull out the Digivice smartphone Koushiro had made did Taichi finally make his appearance, ambling out of the building and down the sidewalk right over to him. The sunlight glinted off of the worn goggles the idiot wore atop his head. And off his enthusiastic grin.
Yamato frowned at him. "What are you grinning about?"
Taichi stopped nearby and leaned into him, that grin only widening. "Well?"
He scowled.
"What do you think?"
Yamato shrugged and looked away. "Don't be smug, Taichi."
"How do I look?"
He cast a quick glance over his shoulder. "Those are old."
Taichi's big mouth twisted into a frown. "I thought you'd like it." A little smile quirked his lips. "Nostalgia, you know?"
Yamato swallowed.
He had always liked the way Taichi looked in his goggles. He'd always enjoyed the glint of sunshine reflecting off their surface.
But Taichi had given those particular goggles to Daisuke years ago.
What was he doing with them now?
Taichi grinned again, knocking his shoulder in Yamato's arm. "Daisuke gave them back a couple weeks ago," he said, like he could read his mind. "He thought they'd be nice memorabilia since he never wears them anymore, you know?"
Yamato only shrugged, then slid onto the motorcycle, signaling for Taichi to join him.
When they got back to Taichi's apartment, he could barely hold on anymore. As soon as the door shut behind them, he shoved Taichi against it and covered his stupid mouth with a greedy kiss.
Taichi's arms wound around him immediately, drawing him closer, and parted his lips for a taste. Yamato pushed closer till their bodies were flush and their mouths were impossible to distinguish, and Taichi only clung to him tighter, his quiet grunts and needy moans vibrating through Yamato's body.
Not that Yamato wanted to let him go.
He wanted to hold on to Taichi forever, hungrily, desperately, until every part of him was part of Taichi and every part of Taichi was part of him.
The moment he pulled back, Taichi managed a giant grin, his lips red and bruised. "I knew you'd love them."
He heaved an irritated sigh but simply said, "You look like an idiot. Don't you dare take them off."
And my latest kiss prompt fill for an anon’s request for DaiKen. Again, this can be found on AO3 here.
Prompt #44:
Tentative kisses given in the dark.
Ken bolted upright with a shriek, tears pricking his eyes, panting desperately for oxygen, and struggled not to succumb to the panic.
He nearly screamed when a hand pressed to his side.
"Whoa, whoa, calm down."
Warm fingers wrapped around his waist, heat seeping through the thick fabric of his pajamas, and tugged him into open arms.
"It was a nightmare. You're okay now."
Daisuke's cheek leaned against his, but the important part was Daisuke's chest flush with his back.
Ken focused on that heat and the slow, pulsing rhythm housed within that chest, used it to slow his own heart until they were once again in sync. He mimicked Daisuke's breathing, steadying his panicked gasps, and let Daisuke's reassuring warmth calm his trembling limbs.
"You're okay," Daisuke murmured in his ear. "I've got you."
Only then did the tension fully release and the dam break loose.
Tears streamed down his cheeks, but he twisted in Daisuke's embrace to wrap his arms around his neck and bury his face in his collar. Daisuke took it in stride, holding him closer, rubbing his back to calm him, laying gentle kisses against his temple.
When the tears finally ran dry, he pulled back, gripping Daisuke's loose sleep shirt to wipe his wet face, drawing a soft laugh from his best friend.
"S-sorry," he mumbled, but he didn't let go of the shirt. "And thank you…" He leaned close enough to press a kiss to his cheek.
"Ken," Daisuke sighed. He cupped his face, keeping him close. "You have nothing to apologize for. And you don't have to thank me either. We're partners. I'm always here for you. Nothing will change that."
A smile stretched his tear-stained cheeks. "I want to thank you."
Daisuke rolled his eyes, but he didn't complain when Ken's lips found his cheek again.
And again.
And again.
Ken drew closer to the center until the final kiss fell at the corner of Daisuke's mouth, and his movements were too deliberate to deny the intention, to deny the wanting.
Breath short, grip tightening, Daisuke turned and pushed forward just enough for their lips to meet momentarily before he pulled away, waiting.
A soft sigh fell from Ken's lips, relief flowing through him, and he leaned in again.
Okay, here I am back on my DaiKen train with these kiss prompts. Again, you can follow them here or on my AO3.
So for @charley-quinn, I chose....
DaiKen for prompt #10
A hello/good-bye kiss that is given without thinking - where neither person thinks twice about it.
As a note: This doesn't technically have spoilers for the audio drama Where Do We Go?, but it was definitely inspired by it. If you've listened to it, you'll get all my little references.
With a sigh, Daisuke offered them each a beer from the fridge.
Iori was technically twenty now, made evident by the fact that he was now more than a couple centimeters taller than him and still growing. But that was an issue everyone knew not to bring up. A sore spot.
Takeru accepted the golden can with a coy smile, but Iori declined, polite as always, and continued talking about the end of his semester.
Anticipation revving throughout his body, Daisuke collapsed onto the chair next to the couch, spreading his legs wide, stretching out over the space like it belonged to him.
Technically, it did.
This was his armchair and his apartment, after all. His and Ken's.
Okay, well.
Technically, just his.
Ken would fight him on that, based purely on the technicality that his name was the only one on the lease.
But Ken had also spent every night there for a long while. It was conveniently close to his university—that had been part of the reason Daisuke had rented it in the first place, and it was also a nice line to spring on anyone who started to ask too many questions—but that wasn't the reason Ken shared his bed every night.
Daisuke tapped his foot against the warm hardwood floor. It was one of those newer places with the heated floors, which he may have insisted on because Ken was always cold.
"What about you, Daisuke-san?"
His foot stopped. "Huh?"
Takeru chuckled. "You weren't even listening, were you?"
Daisuke gave a little shrug.
"What has you on edge?" Takeru scooted closer to the edge of the couch. "Something we should know about?"
He scoffed. "Stop being nosy, you."
Iori, though, clasped his hands and said, "What are your plans for summer break this year?" Ever the diplomatic one.
Daisuke rolled one shoulder and took a long swig of the beer Iori had declined. "Thought we'd go to Hokkaido for a couple weeks—me and Ken. There's the Jozankei Onsen an hour away from Sapporo. Ken thought it'd be fun."
"An onsen?" Takeru snorted. "And the reason you're going to one in Hokkaido is…?"
Daisuke opened his mouth to answer, but Iori beat him to it.
"The ramen, of course." His mouth curled into a fond smile.
"You two are so predictable," Takeru added with a laugh.
He frowned. "Predictable?"
But Takeru took another drink of his beer and moved on. "Were the two of you going to invite the rest of us on your little trip to Sapporo?"
Daisuke's frown only deepened. "I mean, I guess it would be pretty fun to drag everyone along…"
A bold laugh escaped Takeru's lips. "So much for the Digimental of Friendship," he said sagely, hand over his chest.
Iori shifted in his seat, drawing their attention before one of their ridiculous arguments could get out of hand. Again. "Speaking of Ichijouji-san, I thought he would be here."
Irritation—and a little more worry than he'd like to admit—welled in Daisuke's stomach. "He's late."
Normally, Ken would've been home before Takeru and Iori had arrived at all, but Ken had said something about meeting with one of his professors before heading back. The meeting must've run long.
"I'm sure he'll be here soon," Takeru said, leaning against the armrest, completely at ease. "You've already emailed him, right, Daisuke-kun? And Ken-kun always comes running when you call."
Daisuke glowered at him. "What does that mean?"
But footsteps drew near outside the front door, and a second later, the knob twisted and Ken ducked inside the apartment, his satchel slung over one shoulder.
A soft smile spread across his lips. "Sorry I'm late," Ken said to the room. "It's good to see you, Iori-kun, Takeru-kun."
He glanced between them both, insisting they don't get up, but there was no restraining Daisuke. He'd hopped up the moment Ken came inside the door, grinning like a fool and shouting his name like it needed to be announced at all.
Ken released a little laugh at his pure energy and said in his soft voice, "Let me just put this away, and I'll be right back."
Smiling, he turned his attention to Daisuke, whose grin only brightened at the attention. "Hello there," he whispered and dipped to press a quick kiss to his lips before padding off to the bedroom to deposit his school things.
Daisuke could only stare after him, a little sigh leaving his mouth while he waited for his boyfriend's return.
"What does that mean?" Takeru's sharp voice said, laced with amusement and sarcasm as he echoed Daisuke's earlier words. "What a ridiculous question."
He twisted to look at them again, head cocked. "What are you on about?"
Iori's eyes had gone wide as saucers.
Beside him, Takeru's coy smile had shifted into a full smirk. "Oh, I don't know, Daisuke-kun. Something you were going to tell us about you and Ken-kun?"
Feb. 8: Favorite 02 Chosen Child (younger 6)
This is perhaps the toughest question you could ask me.
Okay, no, that’s a lie.
It’s obviously this dude.
Daisuke Motomiya
I could probably talk (or GIF) for hours about why he’s wonderful, and quite frankly, others have said it better than me already, so I guess I’ll keep it to a few major points.
Daisuke is willing to go the distance even if no one else will. He was the one who was determined to defeat the Kaiser when everyone else thought it was hopeless and they needed to regroup. He was the one who was unaffected by BelialVamdemon’s illusions.
Daisuke is always optimistic and eager. His team may not believe in him and his family sure as hell doesn’t, but he refuses to let that bother him.
Daisuke may not understand what it means to have a deep friendship, but he’s sure as hell devoted. And when you have his trust and his affection, he will always ALWAYS have your back.
Daisuke would do anything for the team. He puts the team and their partnerships above all else, even when the others don’t. Because you’re not just partners with your Digimon, you’re partners with the rest of your team as well.
Daisuke is a miracle worker. Like Joey Wheeler, he improves and succeeds based on a strange mixture of luck and perseverance. And it’s fucking beautiful.
It’s like 3:30 a.m., so I’ll just leave this here: Ramen King.
And as a final note...
I really can’t talk about Daisuke without also talking about this beautiful boy:
Daisuke & Ken
Because they have the most beautiful friendship ever. They make each other better people. Daisuke literally saves Ken’s life in multiple ways, and in a way that’s never developed on screen, Ken saves Daisuke’s as well. Daisuke never had a legit friend before Ken, and he certainly never had anyone who listened to him and didn’t think he’s a complete idiot.
I will legit never stop shipping them.
The ships I expect from Last Evolution Kizuna based purely on the trailer and this damn adorable poster...
Taiyama
Okay, this is the most obvious ship, as they are the ultimate bromance when it comes to anything Adventure. Did you watch that damn trailer, though? It was almost as big a Taiyama tribute as tri was, and that’s saying something.
Koumi
After how big Koumi was in tri, I’m not at all surprised that this will likely continue. Seriously, just look at how close they’re standing. And he’s drinking tea, which may or may not be a reference to when she brought him tea that one time, even though she was pissed off at him.
My inner eight-year-old will be pleased, as she was with tri, though they’re hardly my favorite ship now. Koumi was my first ever ship, based purely on this episode:
Takari
This is another obvious pairing, purely because they’ve been paired off from the moment Hikari showed up on the scene back in the original Adventure. Their ship was subtle in the trailer, as expected, especially after how subtle their relationship was in tri. I doubt they’ll get much in the way of screen time, but it should be obvious that they care for each other deeply despite that.
Daiken
Okay, let’s be real. This is more wishful thinking than anything else because they’re my babies and my OTP and I love them and I miss their stupid perfect faces. But legit, if I don’t get some good bromance and some Jogress action, I’m gonna be pissed. I mean, they even put in the backstory info that Ken goes with Daisuke on some of his freaking ramen trips, and if that isn’t love, I don’t know what is. These boys deserve all the happiness in the world.
And last but not least...
Yes, I added this one just to be funny. But seriously, none of the other Chosen seem quite so incredibly enthralled with their Digimon partner as Miyako is with Hawkmon. True love, ne?
Feb. 7: Favorite Adventure Chosen Child (older 6)
My favorite nerd...
Koushiro Izumi
Back when only Adventure existed (or at least was the only one dubbed), Izzy was my first love. He’s sweet, intelligent, horrible with people, yet an amazing friend, and the biggest dork ever.
Of course, you can’t really talk about one character in Digimon. That’s not how it works. One of the best things about the show is how the characters grow because of knowing each other.
And because it’s two in the morning and I’m behind and intend to spend a good long while talking about my 02 babies...
Koushiro & Taichi’s friendship is just fucking beautiful
That was one of the best parts of Our War Game--the interactions between Koushiro and Taichi were just fantastic on so many levels. And Koushiro is easily the most reliable friend that Taichi has in the whole group, though he often takes him for granted.
Two of my absolute favorite episodes in Adventure are the two Mugendramon (Machinedramon) episodes where Koushiro and Taichi are running around trying to find medicine for Hikari without getting discovered by all the machine Digimon. It’s funny, it’s sweet, and there’s, of course, Taichi’s heart-wrenching backstory. But one of the best parts of these two episodes is how it solidifies their friendship. It’s fucking beautiful.
Koushiro & Mimi
Koumi was my first ship at age eight. You know, before I understood what a ship was.
Sure, in the original series, they don’t get a whole lot of screen time together, but when you put the two of them in a room, it’s sure to be interesting. Their personalities clash in a way that was intriguing and exciting, and those are the most interesting kind of relationships (friend or otherwise).
And while they have almost no interaction in 02 because she lives in America, that is more than made up for in Diablomon Strikes Back and tri.
And of course, you can’t forget...Tentomon!
The bond between Koushiro and Tentomon is one of my favorite human-Digimon relationships. One of my favorite things about Digimon is how their partners show them they’re not alone and that, no matter what, there’s someone on their side, fighting for them and believing in them.
Fuck, I’m gonna cry now.
