On the second day of our trip, YangYang and I took my family to an ancient town called Gubei Water Town, located in the Miyun district of Beijing.
It is a lovely place, perfect for slow walks and relaxed afternoons in spring. Since we visited in winter, entry was free, which felt like a little seasonal bonus.
Inside the town, there were displays of daily life from ancient China, such as traditional liquor making, fabric dyeing, old delivery shops that hired armed escorts to protect goods, and many other fascinating details that brought history to life.
After exploring the town, we headed to the Great Wall right next to it, the Simatai Great Wall. There were not many visitors, and the views were absolutely stunning, making the walk even more special.
It was another beautiful day spent with family.
I am especially grateful to YangYang, who took time off work and drove us around so our family could visit so many wonderful places together.
