Amazing that these were actually preserved. Serendipitous, even.

I’ve reached a point in time in the collection (roughly 3500 years ago) where we’re starting to see objects made of something other than stone or clay -- less durable, more prone-to-decay stuff like wood, plant fiber, and the like, hence the basket and rope above. Still, even knowing all the science behind why this kind of thing has survived for so long (arid climate, lack of air circulation bringing in new molds and bacterias, undiscovered ruins) it’s a little bit mind-blowing. Especially since that method of basket-weaving is the kind I first learned in school, and my mother still has at least one basically replica of that basket, in miniature, on a shelf in the family home, evidence of my youthful handiwork.

These sandals look like they’d be super comfortable to wear, and also available at your local beach town drugstore.
