Lantern Corps Language Au

I’ve been thinking more about my Lantern Corps Language Au and started getting the basic idea more together then it was in my one post where hall gets doused with truth pollen or something.

Okay basically all the different Lantern Corps share the same language (just to clear that up) and this language is a mix of a bunch of alien languages in part due to how many cultures mix in the corps. Since humans have barely ever been in the corps there’s very little earthen influence so far but with how many lanterns are coming from earth… Anyway!

So each corp has different accents that they tend to speak Lantern in, and the language sounds sorta similar to earth music? Each accent sounds like a music style (haven’t completely decided but think angry music=red and stuff like that?) and changing corps doesn’t change the accent directly (if you moved from America to Italy would you gain an Italian accent? Probably not immediately!).

Unlike most alien languages where they speak their normal language and it translates to the one they intend lantern is actually spoken (for beings that have vocal capabilities), and has to be learned, but new lanterns do automatically understand it even if they have a bit of trouble with telling the tone.

Logically humans shouldn’t be able to speak lantern because some of the required sounds to speak it aren’t possible for humans but depending on what you like you can either say that A: the ring helps with any impossible sounds or B: you also headcannon that joining a lantern corp leaves permanent changes (which is another headcannon I have but that’s not important for this post-) that allow for this

Tone is REALLY important for Lantern, the same direct translation can mean wildly different things based on the emotion behind it. In the written version this is represented by differently colored ink (and if I’m not lazy for the vocalization as well). Also the tone isn’t only verbally communicated but also sort of projected? This ties in with one of my other head cannons that being so entangled with the emotional electromagnetic spectrum allows lanterns to vaguely feel the emotions of those around them and project their own-

Along with a verbal version, a mental ish version, and a written language, Lantern is also spoken in several other ways because not every species is gonna communicate in the same way as humans. The most prominent of these is a ‘visual’ version that utilizes the lights on their suit to create different colors and brightnesses (almost a sort of Morse code/sign since limbs are sparingly used to further the meaning).

Anyway the last point I have for now is that because there are so many requirements and details with Lantern it’s extremely hard for a non lantern to learn (if they even know about it, which most don’t) let alone speak. The only species I can think of that would be able to speak lantern semi easily would be Martians…

Oh also if anyone likes this I’ll expand on it someday with my headcannoned culture that lanterns have developed lol.

Saiyan deities incoming

My uterus is currently waging a very gruesome and violent war to the rest of my body, meaning I cannot sleep.

Thus, I am using this painful time to re-read the notes I took on the Saiyan Pantheon and what I have of the Saiyan language and adding to the deity-lore and I even came up with a name for one of the Kaioshins that were absorded and thus obliterated from existence by Buu and all! Fun times.

I have decided to keep the Saiyan pantheon smallish. We have 4 main deities, with two of them being actively adored and honoured and praised (and not forgotten) until the end of the Saiyan race, and 4 more minor deities, who've been completely forgotten by modern Saiyans. 4 female-presenting and 4 male-presenting deities. And yes, some of them are intersexed.

And, of course, the numbers are important. Because WHY THE HELL NOT? You are either an overthinker that loves learning about belief systems or you're not.

2 is the smallest prime number and has many interesting mathematical properties, haha. It's also the number of duality. Said duality can mean balance, partnership but also opposition. In Tarot, the Major Arcana card corresponding is II - The High Priestess, who symbolises intuition, spirituality, higher power... but also XI - Justice (justice, law, truth, fairness, karma), or XX - Judgement (reckoning, purpose, renewal).

4, now. It has A LOT of symbolism. Just go look for it if you're interested, but yeah, lots. Well, the number represents the four elements (earth, air, water, fire), but also stability (though it's an unlucky number in Chinese and Japanese because it sounds like the word "death", and that's an interesting tidbit I just came across, haha, you'll see why). In Tarot, it's the IV - Emperor card (stability, structure, discipline)... buuuuuut it can also be the XIII - Death card (because 13: 1+3=4), which stands for the end of something, destruction, but also metamorphosis, transition and rebirth.

And 8, in many cultures, is a number of prosperity, so I felt it appropriate, but it's also a number of balance (symmetry in the arabic numeral system, we stan) and put sideways? Looks like the infinity sign, which is always a bonus. In Tarot, it's the VIII - Strength card, which stands for strength, energy, fortitude, courage and power (very Saiyan-y, don't you think?). We can also associate it with XVII - The Star: hope, renewal, healing, rejuvenation, restored power.

And yeah, of course I brought up Tarot, because why not? As a reference, I used my (still scarce) knowledge of the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot (so VIII is Strength and XI Justice, though in some decks they are apparently inverted).

Just so you know, at first, I had only three main deities, but it did not feel right and I thought quite hard about why and came up with the reason, so I added a fourth... And eventually, I thought more about it and came to the conclusion that the Saiyans needed a few more minor deities. Because I also wanted them to be a multi-facetted culture and not just the warmongering genocidal monkey werepeople they're showcased to be in most of DBZ (and the expansion of lore in DBS is far from enough, and I don't have FighterZ or Legends so I have no idea if there's even more lore I'm missing out on and I might need to really buy FighterZ hahaha).

So yeah, you're getting a belief system that stems from my headcanons about the Saiyan race, woop woop!
