Over the years, I've had many theories about why the left has not gotten farther electorally in the US this past decade. It's the lack of money, tendency to split, yada yada yada.
But watching Bernie and AOC chain themselves to a genocide enabling, dementia ridden, hugely unpopular president who is very clearly NOT getting another term at this point has led me to a new theory.
The US left has failed electorally because all our electeds are kinda dumb.
#I guess the signs were there#but it's so demoralizing#reazlizing they're all various shades of lee carter and josh4congress#pelosi has realized Biden is a dead end and is out there wheeling and dealing to try to get a replacement in#meanwhile bernie thinks that letting a guy everyone hates or pities run with bernie's signature policy goals is a good move?#like come on dude#even if biden by some unthinkable miracle managed to stay in and beat trump biden wouldn't do medicare-for-all or rent control or whatever#because 1. he promised a bunch of stuff last time he didn't do#and 2. Biden is almost certaily not making it past the first year of that second term so loyalty to him gets you less than nothing#there is literally no upside to working with biden at this point#and AOC#oh my god AOC#christ#you cannot say Gaza is genocide then go to bat for the guy FUNDING said genocide and expect anyone to take you seriously#like no wonder you're losing grounds with the lefty groups that did all your campaign work for free#how can they stand by her after that?#like I would like some lefty electeds who have some ability to navigate current political reality!#and actually fight for goals using ALL the tools at their disposal rather than making speeches or whatnot#like I think Pelosi's political goals are generally abhorrent but she actually knows how to fight for them!#she understands how DC works and knows how to get her donors what they want!#I KNOW leftists like this exist!#20th century history bares that out!#So WHERE ARE THEY?#honestly probably a big part of it is that standard centrist dems have practice fighting with each other in the party itself#like to become THE GUY on the ticket when a lot of other guys exist takes some doing#so they learn to make deals etc.#whereas an outsider candiate wouldn't have that same experience#they've won campaigns but campaigns are very different from internal politics#I should end this by saying Rashida Tlaib is innocent here#thank God one of them actually believes in something
