UHHHH i just finished anne with an e and WOW i love anne shirley-cuthbert so much

I finished season 2 of Anne with an E and I love so much about this show...

The strongest relationships are the familial ones, and that’s really nice to see. 

They also do a good job of capturing a kid’s imagination, how they can sometimes see magic in anything, and even the most mundane thing can become an adventure. Anne playing in the woods and making up stories just feels so intensely nostalgic to me and I love it.

The way they portray the awkwardness of 13 year olds is amazing too, again the way Anne acts and the mistakes she makes feel so familiar. It’s fun to watch a show where 13 year olds actually act like 13 year olds (well most of them anyway).

I really do wish the show did a better job of building Anne’s relationships with Diana and Gilbert. Both of those characters fall kind of flat to me? Especially Gilbert. 

I don’t like how the show acts like it’s inevitable that Anne and Gilbert are gonna get together and that they have feelings for each other when there’s been no actual build up for their relationship. They barely talked to each other in season 2 at all. I know they get together in the book but just knowing that their supposed to be a couple doesn’t make their relationship believable.

But yeah, here’s hoping they do a season 3

Congratulations to the Anne With an E writers for not having Cole being the victim of horrid Mr. Phillips’ abuse. When they first introduced that storyline of Mr. Phillips being gay and also being frustrated and attached to Cole, I physically screamed, because I’ve seen this shit in other shows before, and it always starts ugly and ends worst.

But not here. Instead Cole stands up to Phillips and tells him that if he, a grown ass man, isn’t able to come to terms with his own sexuality, that’s not Cole’s fault nor is it an excuse to take it out on him, nor will he put up with it, thank you and bye.

How epic is that?

And by the end of the season, he’s living with Aunt Josephine, trying to make his dream of becoming an artist a reality. I won’t lie, the conversation between Cole and Aunt Jo when he comes out to her was one of the most powerful moments of the season. I dearly hope there’s a season 3 because I want to see more of this character. I want to see him be happy in a safe environment, living with someone who, for the first time in his life, fully understands him, and continue to develop his skills as an artist, and hopefully meet the Josephine to his Gertrude.
