Okay okay I've been waiting for an ask like this because it's a major excuse for me to yap about why I love Spamton G. Spamton so much.

But why Azmar would you share such personal information online? Well because babes my face and full legal name have been online (without my permission lol) for as long as I can remember. So fuck it! Also because I truly truly believe that the artist and their background make up 50% of their work. So, if you wanna know why I make Spamton art, heregoes:

It's probably not any surprise to my irl friends that I project onto Spamton a LOT. But it's only because I relate to him like crazy!! But what particularly about him? Well, other than the major theory that he's transmasc, he also wears suits, he's got black short hair, he's not conventionally attractive (lol), and he's very short! IM ALL THOSE THINGS!! I once read a fic that described him as "freakishly small" and 4'10"... dawg I'm 4'9".

It also helps that other people headcannon that he likes to draw. And I mean, cmon. Not hard to see where I relate to there.

Other than less obvious things, I really relate to his fall from grace. I've got crazy imposter syndrome and *cough* a background of loving Bill Cipher to the point I wanted to sell my soul to him *cough* so when people talk about that era of Spamton's life, I'm all like... mmm yeah. That's me. That's me and Bill Cipher, duh.

But aside from all those things, Spamton/Spamtenna came to me at a very specific time in my life where I really needed something to latch onto in order to stay positive. I started getting into Spam in mid November - the world was going to shit (especially for trans people), I was going to take hrt, I was not (and am not) out to my mom, I was let go from my first animation job, and I had a near-death experience in the woods (it's a long story). I felt like absolute shit all of the time.

But then here comes a character that embodied everything I was insecure about and an entire legion of people that celebrated him because of his differences. And it was the first time in my life I'd ever seen that? Like listen, I've related to characters that were maybe short, and or brutish, but nothing hit me all at once the same way Spamton did. And to see that people loved him, in some way, made me feel loved too. It also helped that he has a bangin soundtrack too.

So then I started making art of Spamtenna. And reading fics. And then my art gained traction.

So not only did I feel celebrated by people that loved Spamton, I was literally being celebrated by those people for my art too. And man, to go from like, my bitchass retail job or calls with my parents where I have to mask my voice and then enter into tumblr where I can let all of that go and just be happy for happiness' sake? Trust me, it's something I hold very near and dear to my heart.

So, other than story reasons and stuff that are "objectively why" Spamton is a great character: I think Spamton is a great character because he makes me feel celebrated.
