i really appreciated dane in the fallout series so so much tbh. it was really refreshing to just see a non-binary character with no focus on the fact they're trans and just who they are as a person. never anything about "i go by these pronouns" just people already using them. i really loved their friendship and the progression there with maximus too. i would really love to see more of them, allow the audience to know them more and fall in love. i can easily see dane as the type of character to change audience minds on trans people, i really do.
that's how things clicked for my ex husband. laura jane grace came out and it fucked his whole world view. that guy was so ignorant and had a negative view but after one of his favourite musical artists came out as trans? he started learning, paying attention, still enjoyed her music, and then being trans just suddenly made sense to him.
it shouldn't take that. it really shouldn't. people should just not be awful. but the fact is, it works and that isn't the first time i've seen it happen.
i've seen people's gears turning irl once they have known me for a long time and then i speak about being non-binary. i'm a more androgynous/masculine featured person and i think they don't even realize how they have been perceiving me until that moment.
genuinely would love to see them let us know dane like that before ever even "addressing" them being non-binary, if they ever do
like trust me i love watching and seeing trans stories and i want more of that too! but i also just want more trans people just existing and people respecting that more than anything
