I really don’t need more reasons to love Alex Blake than I already do, but I found one more...
She is kind and considerate, especially to Reid, but she is also so incredibly observant WITHIN the BAU group setting, and I feel like that was the missing part and why I immediately liked her, whereas I had to warm up to other additions.
She is a linguist and knows the power of words, but she also knows the art of communication, and, for a bunch of profilers, the team is (imo) sometimes really bad at reading their own social cues and actually communicating efficiently.
They all talk over each other, they jump from theory to theory and sometimes don’t leave enough room for ‘data digestion’. They all do this, but they are very different people with different thought processes and sometimes they need a different approach to get a breakthrough.
And I love love love seeing Blake seeing them and supporting them the way they need it individually. (Not just Reid. When he gets quiet, someone is always there to prompt him and support his theory. Rossi or Morgan or JJ..)
Alex does it to everyone, but I’ve especially seen it with Hotch, and it honestly warmed my heart. He’s the ‘quietly ruminating on infomation’ type, and sometimes, in trying to lead others and running with their theories, his genius and good conclusions get lost in the noise. But Alex is ALWAYS there to see wheels in his head turning when he’s quieter than usual, and ask what HE’S thinking. As much as I’ve noticed, she is also a great sounding board for him.
I love the relationship she has with Reid, it’s one of my favourite dynamics of the show, but her relationship with Hotch, as colleagues, as peers is incredible too.
