I like how 'mary sue' has become such a useless term, from all sides. You have weird angry men arguing 'X popular female character is a mary sue!', and you have weird twitter women arguing 'well ACKtually, *popular male protagonist* is the real mary sue!"

And both of them say that just because the character overcomes the obstacles in their way. Y'know, like a hero is supposed to do.
