His adoptive parents weren’t as affectionate as them.
Ma and Pop—that was what he called them when he was little. They were both in their late 40s when they adopted him; they loved him, and raised him, and in the end he avenged their deaths. Like a freakin’ Shakespearean play, he once thought when he was in a dark place.
They became a little distant when he became a teenager. He couldn’t really understand why, but he sort of just accepted it. Even when he was little, they’d never kept his adoption a secret from him. Maybe that’s why.
William recalls getting so sick when he was six, missing so much school that he had to stay behind a year, and those endless hospital nights and tests.
In comparison, his birth parents are actually very affectionate—with him and with each other. William has a hard time getting used to it at first.
Your mother was off limits for so long, Dad says. I could only hug her when one of us almost died. Granted that happened quite often enough, he adds nonchalantly.
Maybe that explains why they are so touchy-feely all the time.
At first he is shy. Pop didn’t hug much. Sure, maybe a pat on the shoulder or two. But Dad is a hugger. They bump fists. They play ball. They cooked together and volunteered together. They build rockets and put telescopes together.
A couple of months after he’s come home, he observes something his parents do. Mum naps on the sofa. If Dad sees her, he goes and joins her. The two of them will just nap the afternoon away, without a care in the world.
Maybe they had dealt with all the care in those off-limits years, he wonders.
So, today, he comes home and finds two napping adults and a napping dog. Family that naps together stays together, he thinks to himself and goes to his little sister.
“Hey, you wanna take a nap?” He whispers to the child, who's playing with blocks on the living room floor.
“Sure, Bullfrog,” the girl whispers back. They walk to the sofa, and she gestures for him to sit—across from the loveseat where their father sits with his arms around their mother.
The girl nestles into his arms like she always does. “See you at 4,” she announces softly and shuts her eyes.
We’re a family that naps; nothing can tear us apart. He thinks contentedly as nap time begins.
He's overall a person who loves to play games and be out there although when it comes down to you he melts.
Every time you both meet up he always has to cuddle you for a while. Often times he gets caught up with his duties so it's a really special time for him.
Not to mention that if you have any, he loves to play with your hair. If you don't then he also likes to rub the side of your face with his thumb in a circular motion

Actually David isn't too big on gifts!! His main ways of showing affection is through touch and food. He isn't a foodie but he can definitely make some nice crispy bacon or anything vegan.
Not the best person to go to for 💫maximum comfort💫 but if you ever need the truth with no sugarcoating then he's your guy.

Since he has dice magic which makes me believe he loves games, imagine he likes to set up small treasure hunts sometimes.
So either when you first get up or you're coming home, there's little notes with hints and hearts on them, leading you to whatever the prize is
He's cheesy so obviously the prize is being in his arms. David may consider taking you to dinner or letting you go on a shopping spree
Believe me he understands the need for a new wardrobe.
Probably got matching pjs with little sheep or dice on them!
...And has done the same thing with his squad mates. Nobody was hurt but let's just say someone couldn't get the sheep pjs off and had to work in them during a mission.
Saturdays are reserved for YOU. He may get busy but that whole day is just lazy talking and staring at the sky. Or perhaps going to a fun little festival!
Buys an unholy amount of fuzzy blankets and WILL cover you with half of them if you get cold.
Drinking hot chocolate, coffee, warm water, etc while next to a fire in his arms on a winter day.

6. Real life ridiculousness So, just gonna make a blanket statement of Ging and I aren't actually crazy. But when you write a big story, you sort of have to split your brain up into sections to keep it all going in the proper direction.Often, I put on William glasses and let my mind react to something as if William were a real person. Ginger does the same. But since all of that takes a long time to type, we shorten that to "Will/Shane thinks/does/says etc" because its easier on all parties and fingers involved.That leads me to the subject of Pings and Jings.A 'ping' is when you Really Like Something. Maybe it makes you hot. Maybe it makes you excited. Maybe it just makes you warm inside. Whatever it is, a Ping is a positive and attractive thing. For example? Shane pings on Will's tattoos. Hard. He likes the edgy look. In reverse? Will pings on Shane's quietude and gruff nature. He likes it and understands it.Sometimes, Ging and I will be walking along, minding our own business, come across something and 'PING!'. There is a Shane or a William in our brains filling our heads with the things they like about x, y, and z....But a Jing?Jings are like Pings in that they cannot be easily ignored. But. The J is for jealous. And Shane is jealous of...a fuckton. xDSo yeah. Real life fuckery? Trying to edit a draft and then whoever is reading getting hit with random pings and jings as she tries to get some work done. When we get some of these chapters posted, we're going to try and do a weekly or every other week behind the scenes commentary on said chapter. Like. Random weirdass moments that we had wrangling these two into a pleasing narrative form.But the most common moment of the day is definitely the 4th wall reactions of these two idiots being possessive of one another.
