Andre Gill (French, 1840–1885) - Puss in boots
Artist André Gill painted the original sign in front of the Montmartre bar where he and his creative friends hung out. It was known as "Le Lapin à Gill," or Gill’s rabbit, and this eventually gave way to humorously referencing the bar as the Lapin Agile. The original painting was stolen in 1893, but a copy remains in its place.
