What was your panel about?
The harry potter events in our town usually have this thing called “diary of a fan” which is one fan invited to tell them their experiences and stuff. I have been called for events before and it’s usually to talk about actual topics like wardrobe in the movies and female representation in the series (and i got called a few other times for other types of events outside HP because apparently people like to hear me talk), anyway, the guy running the pannels really finds me funny and wanted me to talk about ANYTHING so by the time he invited me on my facebook inbox he had already ran a monologue on themes he wanted me to discuss and he finally decided to give me diary of a fan so I could just talk about the stuff I did growing up in the fandom.
Because I first read harry potter at age 11 and I’m now reaching 27, I made the main theme of my pannel the fact that there are no posers or more valued fans than others and I did that by showcasing all the humiliating crazy stuff I did growing up like showing my ruined books or telling them how I accidentally started a tradition in the movie premieres here by throwing slutty underwear on the screen (by the third movie i did that people in theaters were yelling THROW IT THIS WAY and trying to keep it a memorabilia).
So basically I talked no internet, no english, waiting for the books to come out stupid weird theories, fanfiction and mostly why it’s so cool to meet people who like the stuff you like whether it’s by reading the books or watching the movies and the only tough thing is having to sound not so obsessed when someone says “oh i like that too” because they don’t know how far in you are.
Since it was such a personal topic, this pannel was less like a pannel and more like a stand up act of two hours.
