i've been busy but i had to fulfill my monthly rk1k quota and also cleanse my mind of the slop i saw of my boys earlier this week so have this quick lil thing <333

THIS TOOK SO FUCKING LONG. there's a reason i don't render my pieces fully and it's because it's EXHAUSTING. but i'm relieved and glad that i stuck it out to the end. most of that time was spent rendering the hands and markus' face. sadly, the glow and downscale in resolution to export to tumblr obliterated a lot of those details so i'll post some close ups here.

there's a lot i'm not happy with in this piece and i've been staring at it for so long that i can't be objective about whether it looks good anymore ahahahah ;u; i think i like how the clothes turned out though! and i learned a lot about the process of rendering and things i liked and didn't like about it. i don't render things thoroughly very often but i think it's healthy for me to try it every once in awhile. (i really should do some proper studies so doing these types of things isn't so laborious).

shoutout to the rk1k server for helping me decide which piece to do (i had 2 other options for consideration that i may eventually finish)!

here's some bits of the process below. the focus for the piece was on the lighting to create a specific mood. cozy was the vibe. i started with a rough sketch and some ideas for lighting. then i cleaned up the sketch and blocked in some colors before diving into render hell where i spent way too much time rendering this. i went through a couple rounds of rendering and sometimes i had to backtrack bc i over-rendered some parts. i feel like sometimes when i render i lose a lot of the shape language and overall energy of the original sketch. it's something i definitely need to practice or at least find a balance between the two. something i'll have to keep in mind next time!!

infodumping is connor's love language

i really wanted to draw connor idly playing with markus' hand while he infodumps but uhm... i spent an eternity trying to figure out the freakin angle of connor's hands to achieve said concept and was failing miserably so i gave up and settled for them just intertwining fingers. my consolation was drawing in the little android bits on their hands.

i spent 50% of my time drawing trying to figure out connor's hands and the other 50% was me trying to figure out why markus didn't look like markus. i swear i draw markus and then i clean up the line art and suddenly it was not markus. liquify tool you will always be famous to me bc otherwise i would have redrawn his face like a bajillion times. i THINK he looks like markus now... hopefully.

anyway, that's enough yapping. i've fulfilled my self-assigned monthly quota of one rk1k drawing so pls enjoy <3333

this was 100% inspired by @they-call-me-youngermoney's drawing of north in markus' suit. i also had a vision and it manifested itself as north rizzing up the st300 at stratford tower.

nines showing off his black chassis

does my sudden output of a lot of art mean i'm procrastinating on something else again? yes.

i've been struggling to draw connor lately so i decided to sketch some other characters and tell me why i was able to draw nines but not connor??????? it's like the same face?????? anyway, i'm gonna go back to the wip i was supposed to be working on instead of this bc maybe i can finally draw connor again.

i started using a new brush to sketch and i kinda like the increased line width and slight transparency. i usually sketch with a pencil brush that's got a width of 12px so moving up to 27px is a huge difference (my canvas is usually 3500x2500ish). it's great for initial sketches and doodles like this, but not if i want to go for something cleaner. happy to add it to my arsenal of favorites!! (btw, the brush is the "bristles hairy" brush that comes in the default krita 3 bundle for anyone wondering).
