"I didn't think I'd see you here," he said, looking up from his book—the one she'd recommended he check out the last time he was at the library, which was a few weeks ago at this point—and straightening up as he sat on the bench right outside his lookout. It was funny for Eli to say that sort of thing, since he didn't know much about the woman other than the small talk they made at the library. What, he didn't think the librarian existed outside of that building? He mentally kicked himself for saying something so... unsmooth.
His eyes flitted down at his book, which he was about 75% of the way through. Usually he ate up books given that the crow's nest got shitty internet service and the VHS tapes got old. One could only rewind Escape From New York so many times before it became stale, no matter how much he loved Kurt Russell and that stupid mullet of his. That being said, his book was about a week overdue; Skip's one-year memorial service was this week and he'd just had a lot of things on his mind. In a teasing tone, he asked Nadia:
"What, they sent you all the way out here to come after my late fees?"
