Hah. Well, it's interesting that you mention that, Anon. We're coming up on the one year anniversary of PiTP, and I remember that moment very well, too. I'll put up video here for folks who might not have seen it or need their memory jogged:
I think the thing for me is that the other guy--who, by the way is Andy Clarke, who is a writer, broadcaster, and host in the UK--was indeed flirting with Michael. It might have been meant as a "joke" or bit, but the sexual undertones were resoundingly clear. But Michael--who is by far one of the most twinkly/flirty humans in existence, and who has made no secret of his attractions to men--not only doesn't flirt back, he doesn't even look at Andy.
To me, this felt like another instance of Michael not even seeing anyone else when David is around. You know? Just like what we saw on the GO 1 press tour, and even the interviews they did for season 2. Yes, they're in the middle of hosting an event, and yes, there is an audience present, but I can think of very few (if any) other contexts or situations where Michael has been openly flirted with and not flirted back, regardless of who else is around. Yet put him next to David, and all of Michael's focus goes to exactly one place, and one place only.
What's also interesting is that the selfie of Michael and David from the end of the night was actually taken by/with Andy:
The other thing about Andy Clarke is that he is gay, and has a husband. So it makes you wonder what Andy saw as he approached Michael and David for a picture. Could they have been holding hands? Or maybe Andy recognized a couple when he saw one, even if none of them said anything. And in this picture, Andy is in front of them, with Michael and David pressed closed together in the background, leaning in to each other. It certainly paints a thought-provoking picture, for sure.
But yes, to your point, Anon, I don't think any one of us could blame Andy for flirting with Michael, and saying what so many of us (including David, with his long-running Welsh kink) have thought and felt about Michael's gorgeous Welsh accent. Definitely a night to remember, without question...
