Conjecture about the identity of Bax’s father was a favorite among town gossips, especially when his young mother, a rookie deputy at nineteen, was notoriously tight-lipped about the affair. Even so, despite the rumors and occasional skirmishes with foul-mouthed locals, Bax learned to shrug off the bastard title when his mother didn’t seem to spare a second thought. He was as loving as he was fierce, and people learned quickly that it was much better to be his friend than his enemy.
Enrolling in the Police Academy at eighteen, Bax rose quickly through the ranks as someone who may not have been the best or the smartest, but he worked the hardest. It wasn’t long before he was exposed to the wanton corruption polluting the Sheriff’s Office, the discovery of which was as enraging as it was agonizing. Not long after making detective, Bax became the center of a staggering local controversy when he reported more than fifteen of his colleagues to Internal Affairs. What followed was the focus of a nationwide media scandal, leading to the mass firing– and resignation– of many high-ranking law enforcement officials. Dubbed the 1992 Controversy, the event marked a distinct shift in the relationships Bax had with his colleagues. Few lauded him, most distrusted him, and everyone was sure to avoid him. He was branded a traitor to the Sheriff’s Office, a stigma he carries to this day.
Along with the nosedive Bax’s work relationships took, so did his personal ones. His marriage to his high school sweetheart unraveled within the wake of the scandal, buckling under the attention of the public and residual resentment towards Bax’s perceived betrayal. Devastated but determined to bulldoze through hardship, he threw himself into his work with the desperation of a drowning man grasping at driftwood.
Within a few years, there was talks of him being tapped for Sheriff, but overwhelming outcry from within the department (and the Rascals) blocked any sort of promotion from being a possibility. Frustrated but unsurprised, Bax continued to struggle through his work despite being obstructed at every turn. However, after the death of his closest friend in the precinct, and on the heels of his second divorce, he finally succumbed to the discontent that had begun to unfold within him. Accepting a position at the Internal Affairs Division, Bax channeled years’ worth of embittered aggression into cleaning up the embarrassing shitstain the Muddy Waters Sheriff’s Office had become.
As of April 2018, Bax has officially taken over as the Sheriff of Rapids County, much to his chagrin.

Despite his reputation, Bax is fairly easygoing. Though he has no respect for people of authority taking advantage of their positions, he isn’t as much of a stickler for rules as many would like to believe. He can be unexpectedly understanding, even if he doesn’t come across that way. Perpetually exhausted and prone to snapping (though quick to apologize), Bax is currently in the midst of a divorce from his soon-to-be third ex-wife, another dancer at Saint Sabrina’s.
Most people incorrectly, but with good reason, assume that Bax’s nickname, The Axe, derives from the ‘92 Controversy. Younger residents believe it refers to his notorious and unerring ability to eliminate corrupt figures. However, the moniker was originally Axed, referring to an incident in the mid-nineties involving his second ex-wife throwing an axe at his car. Only those who have been on the force since then tend to remember the ordeal (fondly).

By ploy, I assume you meant that she volunteered her ingenuity and efforts to serve the local community. With such an obvious heart for the people of this town they should have promoted her to sheriff instead of Baxter.
