Heavy breaths fan one another, as your eyes drink him in, taking in the curve of his pink lips, each blink of his pretty eyes, counting every freckle and imperfection against his handsome face.

Your body twitches, soul aching to touch him for even a fleeting moment, fingers itching to cross an impossible boundary for a mere feather-light touch.

Rationality has long left your mind—consequences be damned. And yet, you were living in a reality where a single moment—a single touch or taste—was deemed lethal.

Every fibre of your being screams, goosebumps igniting across your arms as you resist the urge to reach out to him, to trace his sweet lips with your fingers, to play with the pink strands of his hair, before pulling him into a bruising kiss.

He was a siren, and you were a captain lost at sea.

You would always be close. But never truly there.

If you were the only human Angel could touch

Angel Devil x Reader

The night Angel touches you accidentally for the first time was a calm, cold night. Snow had started to fall in Tokyo earlier in the day, the wind driving flakes against your windows as you moved about your kitchen making dinner.

Angel was lounging on his stomach across the couch with his eyes closed, breathing soft as his wings hung lax and comfortable like a blanket over him.

You and Aki had only been dating a few weeks when he had asked you for a favor. Aki's apartment was cramped enough as it was, a big reason he had be staying with you on and off, and Angel needed a place to crash for just a little while. Your spare room offered an opportunity of safety thats Aki's apartment couldn't. At your place, at least, he wouldn't roll over and kill someone in his sleep.

You happily agreed, not minding a roommate for awhile and you had met Angel a time or two before when you had stopped by Aki's. He seemed sweet, quiet and like to keep to himself for the most part.

That had been two weeks ago and the arrangement had worked well.

"Angel, dinners ready" you said, getting plates down from the cabinet. You glanced over at him across the room over the island, his body unmoving. "Angel, Dinner is ready!" You said a little louder. Still no movement.

You went over, grabbing a wooden spoon on your way to poke him with.

"Hey" you said, jabbing his side until he made an almost whining sound, "dinner is ready".

He shuffled up with a soft "okay", yawning and stretching before following you.

The incident happened when he passed you to make water. His wing had nearly knocked a bowl over and you had both moved instinctually ro grab it. Your hands grabbed each others and when you realized what happened you had recoiled, the bowl dropping and breaking anyway.

"Oh shit" you whispered, looking at Angel who's eyes were wide and his cheeks flushed, "was that bad?".

He was quiet for a moment, staring at you with gold eyes full of questions.

"I didnt... feel anything" he whispered, so faint you almost didn't hear him.

You gave him a questioning look, "what do you me-"

"Your lifespan stayed the same" he said almost breathlessly, "let me try again".

You recoiled again, taking a step back.

"No way what if that was just a fluke?"

"And what if it wasn't?" He countered, his wings fluffing in excitement. You closed your eyes and braced yourself as he reached out, taking your hand in his.

You waited, for what you weren't sure but your heart was pounding. You cracked your eyes open to look at him, he hadn't pulled away. You felt his hand skim slowly up your arm, all the way to your shoulder, down your side.

"I can touch you" he murmured, his fingers warm and shaking as he caressed your hip.

It was as if he didn't know what to do, how to contain himself. His hands were everywhere in a frenzy, not squeezing or gripping but touching, gliding in reverence as his breathing turned ragged.

Before you knew it you were enveloped, his wings covering your body as he practically tackled you to the floor.

"This- This has to be a dream," He said, his voice breathy and barely there as he wrapped his arms around you.

"Have you ever been able to touch anyone?" You asked.

"Never. Not skin to skin without consequence" he whispered, nuzzling against your cheek, "you're warm, smell so sweet".

Your heart jumped in your chest when his lips grazed yours as he moved from one cheek to the other, his golden eyes snapping open from where they had been shut tight.

You both stared at each other, feeling your shared breathes shaking through your chests. His arms moved up the back of your shirt, pushing the fabric up for more access to skin.

"You know this is as dangerous for me as it is you, right?" He said as he pressed his face as the smooth skin of your stomach.

"H-How is that?" You asked, your cheeks burning.

"Because I can't let you go now".

So the first time in Chainsaw Man that we hear about the Town Mouse and the Country Mouse is in chapter 42. Reze mentions it to Denji, who hasn't heard of the fable, and then we cut to Angel Devil explaining it to Aki, implying that Aki's also never heard of it.

EXCEPT.

It's actually foreshadowed all the way back in chapter 13!

Here it is, being read by...

Aki's family. To Taiyo.

Aki's family owned this book. They read it to their child.

And yet Aki hasn't even heard of the title, he doesn't even know enough of it to know that it's Aesop's fable. The way Angel Devil explains it makes it seem like it's his first time hearing of it.

And it's not like Aki would forget. If he was familiar with it, he'd never forget which book was being read to his brother on the day he died. He just out and out didn't know.

Did Aki's family never read him this book? Since Taiyo's arrival did they ever sit down and read him anything? They didn't even invite him to join them. They didn't ask him to come and read with the family. Did they ever?

It took a devil to explain to Aki a story that his brother got to hear from their parents mouths.

Sigh.
