I set up what I know like "bases" and then let the characters run the bases to see what they do, if that makes sense? Then you go back and fix it in editing if you have to so that was the plan all along. Also you totally have the option to have the plan not go well, or to have a character not act strategically for their own reasons. I love action scenes, I get into like a zone and I can see everything happening. My best advice is to let the characters surprise you!
That does make sense! “I love action scenes, I get into like a zone and I can see everything happening.” MOLLY, YOU ARE A RARE BEAST. Everyone I know is like “wot iz action? y are there too many limbs here???? where is character A? what’s character B doing?” I think I have the points I need to touch down, and I know what the two most important points I have to hit are, but all the plans I’m coming up with don’t make sense...so I have the result, but no road map to get there.

Yeah this is when you have to work backwards and come up with a problem-solving plot (basically it’s a procedural) and Steve is like the detective, cracking the case, while Tony is the science/tech expert. But yeah I’ve found working backwards helps? I’ve been writing A LOT of things like this lately and believe you me it’s best when you brainstorm it with a friend. ;)
Yeah, this is definitely one of those scenes that I need to brainstorm with someone because I have zero experience with this type of writing even though it’s not going to even involve that much action in the end and consequently, it’s not my strong suit. I have the result I want, but I see problems in all the ideas I come up with so it’s hard to come up with something logically sound. *throws hands up in air*
