angitia - the oscan snake goddess
✨️🐍Angitia🐍✨️
The goddess of snakes, sorcery, and healing.
The pre-Roman ancestor goddess* to the Marsi of central Italy. Three inscriptions mentioning her have been found in Luco dei Marsi (in antiquity known as Lucus Angitiae, "Sacred Grove of Angitia").
The (adopted) sister of Circe and Madea, she is said to have lived around Fucino/Fucine Lake about 2,000 years ago and specialized in curing snake bites. She taught the people of the region her talent of snake charming. Lady Angitia also taught them how to use the local herbs for medicines & poisons, divination, and by some accounts, even necromancy.
Snakes, serpents, and the gods & goddesses thereof are often given a bad rep in certain mythology and symbolism spaces. So the passage below surprised me a bit at the mention of serpents' (therefore Angitia's) duality.
"Serpents in Marsic mythology held a dualistic representation of both danger and healing. Angitia, being associated with these creatures, was likewise seen as a deity of protection and healing, but also a force to be reckoned with."

* I've seen this title also given to Lady Circe.

Snake charming sorceress.
Angitia my edgy love obsessed chimereon babe<3
Here’s the director of the Pediatric Ward, Angitia! She may seem a bit intimidating, but she really does care about the health of all the juvenile ghosts under her care. Being reptilian, though, she tends to keep her ward’s environment a bit more to her liking, warm and jungley. Look forward to more updates regarding her and her ward!
