Anime Levi #101
Episode 14 - まだ目を見れない ―反撃前夜①― (Can’t Look into His Eyes Yet: Eve of the Counterattack, Part 1)
Checked out FourStarBento for the first time and I found a pretty nifty video explaining the cultural background of various anime depictions of the afterlife. I wouldn’t mind seeing similar videos like this in the future.
Welcome to Cherry Blossom Palace!
Hello everyone! My name is Nia Bloodterra, and this is my first podcast, Cherry Blossom Palace. This is about Anime, and sometimes Manga. I watch anime with subtitles, I do not watch dubbed anime, the only exception might be older anime I cannot find in Japanese. The podcast will have two main focuses:
General Wiki: This will be a guide/info source through a fan point of view. Topics from 'What is Anime?' or 'History of X Studio' will be cover in this section. I have a list of topics I want to cover, but I am open to add more. A little disclaimer thought, I am no expert, but every post will have sources listed at the end. If the sources are more than 5, I will use a Google Doc. I will create a masterlist for these posts, I will add it here, and you can also find the posts under #cherryblossomwiki 💗
Series Review: This will be posts dedicated to a specific series, sometimes about specific parts of a series, or the full series. Most of these reviews won't be heavily structured, they will be subjective. You can find these posts under #cherryblossomreview
Other stuff I might do is:
Best Anime of the Month/Season/Year: My favorite anime of these times!
All Anime from each studio.
Anime rec lists.
I will answer questions!
I might add more later, but this is what I have planned! Each kind of episode will have it's own name, that I will add once I have created the first one! I am just a fan, so keep this is in mind when interacting with my content. I won't tolerate any kind of hate towards me or targeted hate to a community, no exceptions. Also, English is not my first language, I am sorry in advance for any mistakes.
Bye bye!

Anime 101 for those who are disappointed with the lack of canon gay couples for Sk8 the Infinity:
Genre
First, we need to look at genre: Sk8 the Infinity is a comedy/sports anime. I'd personally throw shonen in there as well because it had that kind of feel to it with the skateboard powerups and moves the characters used. As well as how they reacted to Adam's 'Love Smash' ie this was not seen as attempted murder.
Sk8 the Infinity is not intended to be a queer anime. What you're mistaking for queerbaiting in Sk8 the Infinity was just fanservice. This is because queer people were not the intended audience.
To be clear, I'm not saying that there wasn't UST between Langa and Reki. There totally was and I'll say that Langa definitely has feelings for Reki according to how I interpreted it and there is a lot of subtext especially in the finale
However, this kind of shippy feel is common and a type of fanservice seen for years for both heterosexual and queer ships. Japanese media culture is quite different from its Western counterpart. There's not always the follow through like you would expect with a typical romance subplot in Western film or tv show.
That being said, sports anime do not generally contain romance. When they do, it is generally pretty slim and not the focus of the story. Some other examples of sports anime that could feel queerbaity if you're not versed in the genre:
-Eyeshield 21, Haikyuu, & Free.
But what about Yuri On Ice?
Finally, no list about sports anime and shipping is complete without YOI. This is a massive outlier. Out of the dozens upon dozens of anime in this category, this is the only one that I know of with a queer romance.
Anime with Queer Characters
There are plenty of BL anime, but keep in mind that its target audience is straight women and not necessarily queer people. I've listed below some of the more decent titles that might appeal to actual queer people, though your mileage may vary.
Romances beteeen male characters:
-No. 6.
-Given <- this one is BL but doesn't have a lot of the problematic tropes associated with BL.
Romances between female characters:
-Kashimashi (main character AMAB has a gender switch and ends up living as a girl permanently and it's a romance between her and another girl)
-Blooming into You <- girl/girl and ace rep but note another season is coming for this one.
-Izetta the Last Witch <- girl/girl.
Anime with background or supporting queer characters/couples
-Sailor Moon has a couple of canon queer couples. <- This is over 200 episodes and a very episodic 90's anime.
-Card Captor Sakura (a good chunk of CLAMP properties actually have queer characters in them.) <- the original English translation is heavily censored as it was released in the 90's. I'm not
-The Case Files of Jeweller Richard (I'll stress again here that the main characters do not get together)
-Zombie Land Saga has a trans character.
Disclaimers:
This is by no means an exhaustive list, but I wanted to stick with titles I know well.
Note that I am not Japanese, but merely someone who has watched hundreds of anime titles over the years, so my knowledge about Japanese media may be incomplete.
