i know it’s not like a covert thing in the show but ive seen mob psycho like 3 times already and without fail when it goes from “mobs a quaint awkward middle schooler with a fraud mentor who lives in a cute little food themed city and has a cute little childhood crush” to “mob almost killed his brother when they were kids and it sort of created two complexes in both of them where ritsu both fawn responses his brother out of fear and resents not being special and mob suppresses his emotions so severely he physically couldn’t laugh for years and constantly felt like a danger to everyone around him” i crumple like a happy wheels character

Rewatching Fruits Basket

Honestly, I've already had hella queer headcanons of more than one of the characters here, but to me theres just a lot of queer like subtext in more than one of the characters' relationships and stuff, but ofc the series suffers from heteronormativity given when it was made and all but honestly I don't think that fully excuses it when other animes had rep in them around that era and all plus they could've handled characters like Ritsu's relationship with gender way better in the modern remake, that said fuck canon I can headcanon what I want fr tbh, anyone can really, I just think Hatori should kiss a man or like I love the concept of Yuki becoming more comfy in his androgny in the future, and like mf's like Haru that is a bisexual fr and Tohru? Pansexual energy, I could go on lmao, not to mention I think more than multiple in the Sohma clan could be queer when they have over 100 people in there and even amongst the Zodiacs it'd make so much sense bc they wouldn't have to worry about transforming and stuff, gen I think a good number of the characters would be chill with it too.

Fruit Basket has multiple typical anime issues and more plus decisions I don't fuck with, but I still love it and all, and the characters that exist in it, so I'm having a blast rewatching it.

So this takes place Episode 10 (ithink) Gilbert is finally explaining to Oz what has happened in the past 10 years, getting adopted by The Nightrays, reuniting with his brother, explaining how he met Break, being a spy, assassin, gaining Raven Chain, working for Pandora and betraying the family he knows and loves, there's a lot to unpack and a lot of trauma to delve into.... side note, Jun Mochizuki needs to make a novel or manga spin off explaining Gilbert's 10 year life cos it is so interesting, we get little clues in the novel but how amazing would it be to explore his life through his POV.... anyway, lots to unpack...

Oz is his best friend, it makes sense to want to know how his best buddy has been, it's called caring Oz!! Why are you sleeping! That just ticks me off cos Gil isn't even bothered, and that's why we love him,, but honestly, he should be annoyed, and what's sad is that Oz doesn't even acknowledge Gils past, he knows Vincent is his brother, but that was early on, he probably fell asleep at that part, he just seems uninterested, and is focusing a lot of time and energy to Alice, who at this time, is still a stranger! Grrr it just grates me 😅 Gil is without a doubt the most interesting character, on par with Break and even then, when we're learning Break's past the same time as the characters, Oz is awake and listening 😵 talk about rubbing salt in the wound, the level of attention Oz shows Gil is abysmal compared to everyone else... but I still love him and Ph is not perfect, nothing is perfect, and it'll always have a special place in my heart (what's left of it after the ending) it's just this scene and segment in the chapter that makes me see red 🤣🤣

Finished my rewatch of Nabari no Ou. And now I remember why it was so important to me half of my life ago. I’m not sure if I was disappointed back then with how the anime ends, but I think even at the tender age of 15, I appreciated it then. This seemingly novel idea that as painful as loss is, remembrance is still worth it. Grief is still worth it. Love is still worth it.

I’ve heard that the manga takes a different turn with Yoite and Miharu’s story. Although I’ve not read it, I think I prefer the anime ending. Forgetting entirely seems more heartbreaking. I guess that’s kind of the point that Oda made regarding Hattori’s plans. We don’t live in an ideal world where we can sacrifice one singular person in order to achieve peace on such a grand scale.

I like the last episode of Nabari no Ou because Miharu and Yoite are happy, even if just for a little while. I think it’s especially sweet that Hanabusa and Tobari are basically parents to a strange ragtag group of kids. A group of kids who, mind you, have suffered a lot and deserve a whole lot of softness and love.

I genuinely hate that Raiko dies and that Yukimi and Yoite don’t meet again. Initially, I thought that the address on the lemonade recipe was the address where Yukimi and his sister are going to, but I realized that it’s not. Hurts a bit. But then again, everything about this anime does. I’m not sure I can handle reading the manga with knowing how differently things pan out for Yoite and Miharu.

Part 2 of Clemi OAV rewatch

Continuing where we left off - Umi wants desperately to go off to rescue her friend but Clef, even in his weak condition is still trying to protect her despite her feeling useless.

Clef feeling guilty is a character trait all iterations of him share apparently. Umi alarmed as he coughs violently. The strain from all the fighting and magic used is hampering down his body. Karma from the spell he used.

Clef senses something amiss. Spider senses tingling? jk Do love that Clef is incredibly protective of Umi. Going so far as to stand in front of her to shield her with his body. 🩵💜🩵

The irony of this is that Ascot both broke up their quiet, bonding moment with his untimely interruption but also funny how he is the villain in this version. Trying to kill them. Early in the episode he was sulking because he REALLY wanted to kill Clef but was denied.

Clef, as the pics tell - used magic to get them out of that situation for the time being. They are still true to their characters. Clef pushes himself too much and Umi is there trying to take care of him.

The romantic closeup and shared gaze. Clef telling her to remember why she became friends with Fuu and Hikaru. Trying to help motivate her to find what she needs to awaken.

They are in their own world staring at each other till Ascot disrupts it AGAIN by attacking.

Ascot knows what is up!

Clef in an act of protection, affection and sacrifice uses the last of his magic to create a bubble shield to Wisk her off to safety.

That loving expression...

Then a building falls on him. Not the most ideal ends for a sorcerer of his caliber but he did go down to save Umi's life.

Even though their time was brief, they formed a bond enough for Umi to fall to her knees and shed tears for him. That and being the last one standing to her knowledge.

A sad moment...after his sacrifice, fought and killed Ascot with her awakening her rune god spirit. She immediately returns to the location. Desperate to find him. Hoping he might be alive.

Then it comes out that he's ALIVE! Power of plot armor!~ If he died...think it would be a litttttle bit difficult free the countless humans he imprisoned. Aww, Umi is overjoyed to see him alive with Hikaru.

She races to his side, offering him water and again, trying to nurse him to health. Unfortunately, the time and place for that care isn't kind to them.

Clef filled with sorrow over believing they died..

They vamquished the enemy but...ends in tragedy in terms of our girl's hearts. Clef and Ferio tell them they will rebuild Cephiro and depart their world. Umi is crying and distraught over Clef leaving. Seems like a nod to her unspoken confession from the first series. Limited time and they were leaving anyway. Plus, only three episodes to show this version of the story. Fuu and ferio had their moments. Fighting and then coming to an understanding. Fuu also grew attached. Hikaru was protected by Lantis, fought by his side and he died for them to have a chance to win the final battle with Eagle. Least the main couples all did have some moments together. "They are going back, aren't they?

So much has happened. Since we have met...and even now. I know we've had time to say good-bye, but..." -Umi

I’m realising that animes are deceptively long

20-25 minutes per episode is relatively short, however, that means that 2 or 3 episodes is one ☝️ hour,

but they go by so faaaast

So I press on

While preparing for the Digimon rewatch (follow @rewatchingdigimon) I decided I would also fetch me some of the other old monster anime, as the entire genre of "monster taming" shows certainly has to be one of my favorite things. And so I started to randomly rewatch a show that I have not watched in like 20 years: Monster Rancher (or as it was known in Japan: Monster Farm).

Holy fuck. Genki, the main character, has to be the most AuDHD character in all of anime.

This kid, I am tell y'all.

For those who do not know the anime (which is probably most of you): Kid loves his monster taming video game, wins a tournament so he gets to be the first to play the new edition, which then isekai's him into that world.

Now, a lot of those late 90s monster anime had kids being isekai'd into a monster world. To which the normal reaction is: "OMG! Shite! How do we get back home?"

Not Genki. Genki: "OMG! This is the best day of my life! I finally have escaped the real world!" Now, you might think: "Okay, he is a kid who just got isekai'd into his favorite game. But the novelty of this has going to wear of quickly, right?"

Nah. Not for Genki. Genki ends in this rather Dark Fantasy world in the middle of a big ass war. (Like, I not even kidding. This show is dark. By episode 10 the body count is far above 100 if you count both monsters and humans.) And he does have nightmares........ about having to return to the real world. And he goes even on to explain: Yeah, he misses his "real world" friends and family. But not to have to live in that world, where everyone has to kinda be the same? Yeah, that is a blessing to him.

And yeah, this is just a thing that does never change throughout the show. Genki does not want to leave his isekai. He wants to stay there. Yes, even if it is a medieval fantasy world that goes from one war to the next. Everything is better than to go to school and then take a salari job.

Man. I... really get this boy. Like fuck. Kid. I feel you so much.
