About Lance’s bayard turning into a broadsword and how it’s foreshadowing klance being endgame
First and foremost, I just wanted to say that reading all these klance metas are the main reasons I’m even writing this at all. I wasn’t too optimistic after binge watching season 7 of voltron but tbh sooooooooo many amazing theories came out after it was released. Bless all of those optimistic klance fans for now I have joined you in your ranks at being not too dead after season 7.
So I have to credit this post by @pidgeonblocks it really started making me think about lance’s arc specifically.
The post was basically moments when lance was pushed aside by various members. And I was confused by this one gif that was there.
It was this gif:
And it got me thinking... why does the scene where lance’s bayard turns into an altean broadsword have an important impact on lance’s feeling of being pushed away? As well as have an impact on lance being angry about Keith “running away”
Many people have noticed (or as I’ve read in many lance metas) that when keith left in Season 4 at the end of episode 1, lance remarked by saying “Who am I going to make fun of?” And as we see in subsequent episodes he pretty much didn’t have anyone to “make fun” of at all.
We’ve seen that during Keith’s time with the blade of marmora that he was feeling pretty lonely. He may be close friends with hunk and pidge but lance doesn’t know much about computers or engineering.
The only person he could really relate to was keith, who was also a fighter pilot and he doesn’t seem to take much interest in coding or mechanics either so.
And you could say that in that case, lance could relate to shiro, but shiro wasn’t in his right mind (kuron lol) and shiro (kuron) has yelled at lance before so I doubt lance would willingly to to shiro at this moment in time.
So lance ends up doing what keith used to do.
Which was sparring alone to with the droids/drones in order to hone his skills and keep his mind occupied.
Now the main reason his bayard changed into a broadsword was because lance was having trouble shooting the drones with his gun. And what I’m trying to get at is,,,
the gun wasn’t the weapon he presently needed to defeat the drones.
When he was in a sticky situation,, his bayard changed into the sword.
Why is this important you ask?
Because from what we’ve heard from the creators, lance is going to be someone’s first choice. Meaning that he’s going to end up with someone he needs, not wants.
And lance’s bayard (which is the red bayard now) changed into a sword because the situation needed it.
You know who else uses a sword as their primary bayard weapon?
K E I T H.
So lance’s bayard turning into a broadsword could be another foreshadowing to klance being endgame. Because the bayard only changed when he needed it to.
This could be a reason why we haven’t seen lance use a broadsword since then because at that time lance’s mind was in disarray regarding keith leaving.
There were a lot of episodes in between keith leaving and this scene but we know that lance definitely feels strongly about keith leaving due to his outbursts in the space madness episode in season 7.
He mentions it TWICE. And with no prompting either. The argument was in regards to Allura and Hunk. He’s not trying to defend what keith said to them, Lance is putting in his two cents in regards to attacking keith.
Sooo the reason we haven’t seen lance use a broadsword is because lance’s state of mind is more confused. More conflicted.
With his crush on allura more realized and his feelings about keith returning to the team, It almost parallels the moment in season 7 where the red lion doesn’t come to lance’s aid immediately when called.
So in conclusion, I’m guessing that we’ll possibly see lance use the broadsword in season 8. Because as many have discussed, lance’s arc has yet to be seen.
And with all the symbolism surrounding the bayard turning into a sword, keith, and lance,,,,
that seeing lance’s bayard change into a broadsword again will probably be instrumental in lance’s self discovery and work towards klance possibly becoming canon.

New challenge: figure out the plot of an AO3 fanfic only by reading the tags, you can't read the summary.
Example:
Midoriya is a villain that infiltrates UA but instead of any real villain acts he just cheats at every hero activity, dramatically getting the hero kids to scream "BETRAYAL" at him like a theatre kid who overacts to the point that the play becomes comical. There are also motorcycles and Midoriya breaks his arms (as he usually does).
