We’re feeling the warm fuzzies for National Pet Day today, and so is Black Narcissus, the flying mascot of the 77th Pursuit Squadron of Shreveport, Louisiana. The cuddly little kit is shown here in September 1936 as a four month old, with his owner, troop commander Lieut. Douglas T. Mitchell.

This wet-nose Wednesday, we’re sharing this photograph of Weegy, who, judging by the quality of the image, appears to have been feeling wiggly this day. This bouncy little pup is being held by Eva May Seal Welch, sister to photographer Edward J.S. Seal. The photograph is undated, but was probably taken at some point between 1900 and 1940. More images from this collection of photographs (Acc. 1971.336) can be found online by clicking here. The collection features over 300 photographs taken by the Seal family of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania during the first half of the 20th century. Many of these images offer a glimpse into family and town life in Chadds Ford and Wilmington, Delaware during the 1920s and 1930s, featuring Seal family members, friends, neighbors, and employees. Other subjects include the 1939 World’s Fair in New York, the artists N.C. and Andrew Wyeth, and local bridges and roads.

It’s National Dress Up Your Pet Day! And who is a good boy? You is a good boy! Yes you is! Yes you is! This cute little pup is probably Blot, the family pet of Mary Belin du Pont (1839-1913) and her children.The photograph was likely taken around 1896 at the family’s St. Amour residence in Wilmington, Delaware. If this is Blot, he may have had some assistance from Mary Belin’s son, Pierre S. du Pont (1870-1954). P.S. du Pont kept this glass plate negative in his possession; it eventually became part of the Hagley Library’s P.S. du Pont photographs (Longwood) (Acc. 1969.002) collection.
