Fresh off the sewing machine! A test pair of forest green tapered pants. I’m still a little unsure about the fit (I think I need a tad bit more ease in the back thigh area). But overall this pattern is coming along nicely I think. I also added a zipper (I know you guys are excited about the zipper fly)!! 😄 And lengthened the hem an inch. This version just has the back patch pockets because it is so fitted, I think the front pockets really aren’t very practical. There are lots of lightbulb moments in my sewing career, but one of my favorites is discovering fabric spray adhesive. In 2011 I decided that I wanted to sew a dress for my Holiday collection in silk velvet. At the time I lived within walking distance to @voguefabrics in Chicago and I found this amazing silk velvet. When I went to purchase the velvet, the lovely staff recommended I use Sulky temporary spray adhesive instead of using pins to sew the fabric together. It worked a charm! My signature style... 🤔 You know to be honest I feel like I’m still trying to figure that out! But what I do know is I’m drawn towards casual basics, with a romantic/vintage twist. If that’s even a style! I love wearing and sewing with natural fibers and I’m always going to prefer buttons over zippers (controversial!) and I’m constantly inspired by history and nature. Since living near the mountains I have become a more active person. And while I’m not crazy about “active wear” I find I‘m drawn towards clothing I can feel comfortable in while I’m out exploring. I’m still trying to figure out how to have both utilitarian clothing while still feeling put together. But I think I’m getting closer! I tend to wear more separates because they’re easy and comfortable to throw on for every day. But I like the idea of wearing dresses and jumpsuits! As someone who sews for others, I’ve sewn and designed a lot of dresses over the years. But I just don’t wear them as much as I’d like to.
