The cool thing with sewing is that you can make changes to a pattern to fit your body, instead of trying to manipulate an already sewn garment to fit after it has been made, which can be very time consuming and may still not fit the way you like. 👉If you don't want to slog through this long caption, link in profile for instructions on grading between sizes. #persephonepants 😉 I used to do wedding and formal dress alterations and most people would be surprised at how much it would cost to alter a dress to fit. People always assumed that it would be cheaper to alter a dress. But if you've ever done alterations you know it can be time consuming and often can take close to the same amount of time to sew a garment from scratch (although not always). You have to pick apart seams (uggghhh), unpick beading, lace or any other details that interfere with a seam you are altering. Then you make the alteration and re-sew everything back together. I won't lie, it wasn't my favorite job, but it did teach me a lot! And I want to say here, learning to alter ready-to-wear garments is a great skill to have and it can make a huge difference in how a garment will fit. ✨If you sew, you have the advantage of tweaking the pattern to fit your body before sewing the final garment together. I usually recommend sewing a test muslin or at least tissue fitting a garment to get some sort of idea of how it will fit on your body. Pay attention to the garment measurements that many pattern companies provide, as it will give you a better insight on how the garment will fit and how much ease is added into the pattern. ✨A fitting question I get asked the most, specifically for the Persephone pants, is what size to cut out if your waist size is bigger than your hip size and is it okay to grade between sizes (since there are no side seams). The answer is yes you can grade between sizes just as you would with a pattern that has side seams (except you're grading at the front and back of the pants, not the side body area). I put together a quick tutorial on how you can grade the Persephone pants between sizes if you have a larger waist to hip or a smaller waist to hip ratio.
