Shooting Star
More Gally stuff! Because I have no life! Request if you want to, lovelies! I can write other stuff I promise, I just default to my true love ;)
Summary: The reader hasn’t been sleeping, and Gally tries to help her fall asleep one night.
Trigger warning: Insomnia?
The night air is crisp and clean. It makes you feel a little more refreshed, despite the fact that you’re running on empty. You take a deep breath in, then out. It’s like a new beginning, every night.
Ever since you came to the glade, you had no problems with sleep. You’d just lay down, close your eyes, and then next thing you know it’s morning. Lately, though, you close your eyes, but all you can see is the darkness, a darkness that you’re painfully aware of- and awake to recognize. Sleep doesn’t take you anymore. In fact, you haven’t gotten a good nights sleep in a couple of weeks.
But one good thing has come from your insomnia. You’ve grown to appreciate the night. The stars draw patterns and the moonlight seeps into your soul. You’ve found that the watchtower is an ideal place to be at night; you have a perfect, clear view of the sky. So, every night for the last week, you’ve waited till everyone is asleep, then you head up to the tower. You really don’t want people to worry about you, so you don’t tell anyone. The boys always make such a big deal out of any little thing going wrong for you. If you can’t deal with a little tiredness by yourself, you might as well just be yelling, “Help! I can’t handle anything remotely uncomfortable! Save me!” And you’re not like that, you know. You can handle it. You have to.
You’ve even got a little fort set up, with blankets and pillows and stuff. You just shove it off to the side during the day, then return at night to cozy up and watch the stars. Shooting stars are a special treat; you love it when they appear. Like a portable wish. Every time one appears, you wish that you’ll sleep a full night. It hasn’t worked yet, sadly.
You’re in an exhausted haze when you feel the tower sway, like how it does when someone’s climbing up the ladder. You tense up. Who would want to be on the watchtower in the middle of the night? Well, you, of course, but other than that? You sit up carefully and wait for them to appear at the top of the climb.
You’re relieved to see it’s just Gally. He gives you a small smile when he sees you. “Hey, night owl. What are you doin’ all the way up here?”
You shrug noncommittally. “I don’t know. I like it up here.”
Shaking his head with a smile, he says, “Of course you do.”
“What are you doing up here?” You shoot back.
“I saw you head up here last night, then you did it again tonight. I wanted to check what’s up.”
“Oh,” you say. “Yeah. It’s just pretty up here. I like looking at the stars.”
He pauses. “Y/N, I know you haven’t been sleeping.”
“Why do you think that?” You ask warily.
“Well, you’re never in the homestead at night. And you’re always exhausted lately. I see you when you’re trying to work- you’re so out of it, so tired, Y/N.” He sits down next to you.
“I’m fine, Gally. So what if I’m getting a little less sleep than I should. I can handle it.” You don’t look him in the eyes. You know he’ll worry if you tell him how bad it is.
He shakes his head. “It’s worse than ‘a little bit less sleep than you should have’. I don’t understand how you’re even functioning.”
You’re silent for a few seconds. “Yeah.” He’ll keep pestering you if you don’t talk to him about this, and he already seems to know. “I haven’t been able to sleep for more than an hour or two every night.”
“For how long?” Gally asks.
“I don’t know,” you say. “Two weeks? More?”
“Shuck, Y/N. I had no idea it was so bad…”
You sit up a little straighter. “Yeah, well, I can deal with it on my own. I have been for this long. And it’s not like anyone can help.”
“If this is how you’re dealing with it, then something needs to change. Look at you! You’re dead on your feet.” He shakes his head, sincere concern flickering on his face. “Come here. Lay next to me.”
“What do you mean, Gally?” you ask curiously.
He rolls his eyes. “C'mon. Just trust me. You do trust me, right?”
You nod, shrug your shoulders, and scoot close to him. The stars shift into view and you take a deep breath. “Now what, genius?”
“Just relax.” He sits near you and moves your head so it’s resting in his lap. “Have I ever told you the story about when some of the gladers tried to play capture the flag?”
You shake your head. “No. What’s that?”
He takes a lock of your hair, runs his fingers through it. He strokes your hair softly, gentler than you would think he could. “It’s a game, one that a couple of gladers remembered somehow. You split the players up into two teams. Each one has a "flag”- some sort of piece of fabric. You divide the area where you’re playing in half, and each side is safe on their own side. The teams hide their flag in their own territory. If you cross into the other team’s territory, they can capture you and take you to their jail. You can’t get out from jail unless one of your teammates comes and tags you. Basically, the point is to get over enemy lines, find their flag, and bring it back to your side without getting taken to jail.“
"Wow. That sounds awesome. We should play it,” you say. You yawn, and he keeps talking.
“Yeah, it was awesome. I was on the same team as Alby, Frypan, Chuck, and Ben. The other team was Minho, Newt, Winston, Eric, and Nick. We started playing, and pretty soon Newt crossed into our territory. I caught him, and left him in the jail. Chuck was guarding. For some reason, the slinthead decided that since Newt couldn’t leave, it would be funny to do something to him.
"So Chuck gets this bucket of water and pours it over Newt’s head when he’s not looking. Newt flipped out. It was so funny, I came back to check on them and Newt was lecturing Chuck like there was no tomorrow, dripping wet and pissed. Eventually Newt just walked away; we thought he was done playing. But he actually wanted revenge. Newt went back for his own water, and dumped it right on Chuck. Chuck ran to get more water, Newt went to stop him, and everyone followed, wanting to see what all the yelling and sloshing was.
"Pretty soon, everyone was soaking wet. We had a huge water fight right in the middle of the glade. After we were all dripping with water, we just sat around on the grass, drying off in the sun and talking. See, this was back when most of the glade didn’t hate me. So we talked.”
Your eyes are starting to drift closed from his weaved storytelling, but you open them a little bit. “Talked about what?”
His hands softly playing with your hair make you melt into him. He’s just so comfortable- so safe. “Well, a ton of things. There were all sorts of things shot around, but eventually we started talking about who our families were. Well, we didn’t really know. But we said what we thought they would have been like.”
You mumble your words, “What do you think your family was like, Gal?”
“My mom was probably overprotective, but really caring. And my dad, I think he was a lot like I am- fast temper and liked to build stuff. And I bet I had a little sister. She was probably annoying, but I’d give anything to see her now- well, if she’s real. I would’ve had a dog too, a big one.”
“That’s really nice, Gally,” you say sleepily. You can feel yourself drifting off rapidly. You smile, knowing he’s only doing this to lull you to sleep. If any of the gladers heard him being so sentimental, they’d never let him forget it. But you don’t mind- it’s sweet.
Gally keeps speaking softly, but you don’t pay very much attention to his words…his tone is just so soothing. The last thing you hear is him saying, “Look. It’s a shooting star.”
You smile. Your first wish is just about to come true, you can tell. But now you have a new wish, and he’s sitting right next to you, holding you. Breathing deeply, you let sleep carry you away.
She's Gone
Hey Emma. This is for you!!! I hope this was something like what you wanted. ❤️ Summary: The reader follows Thomas into the maze to help Minho and Alby, and tries to stay alive so she can get back to Gally. Trigger warnings: blood, really creepy flesh blobs with metal arms(oops) ————————————————------------- Where are they?“ The question is muttered over and over and over. It fills the air. Mumbled under breaths, accented with the sound of nervous fidgeting and pacing. Everyone stands by the door. Waiting. Watching. Hoping for Minho and Alby to come sprinting into view. "What if they don’t make it in time? Is there any way to survive in there?” You stop mid-pace and turn to Gally. He takes your hand and holds it tight. His face is grim and worried. “I don’t know. Not that anyone we know has figured out…but you have to realize they may not come back, Y/N. No matter what, we’ll move forward. We have to.” You shake your head before he’s even finished talking. “No. No, they’ll get through this. I know they will…they have to.” With that you pull your hand away and move up close to the doors. Newt is there right by the gate, completely still. His eyes are blankly staring into the ivy draped walls of the maze. You don’t know what to say to him…you’ve never been good with words. Thomas stands nearby, fidgeting and moving restlessly. The tension in the air is tangible as you all lay in wait. “Can’t we send someone after them?” Thomas asks, frustration tinging his words. Newt, sounding resigned, answers first. “It’s against the rules. We can’t risk losing anyone else.” You hear Gally behind you. "Either they make it or don't." That’s when the doors start to close. “Oh no…” Chuck says quietly. The sense of dread settles into the pit of your stomach, weighing you down. “I SEE THEM!” There they are, Minho yelling and dragging Alby with all his might. The gladers erupt into shouts, some encouraging him, some telling him to leave Alby behind. But you can tell from the look on his face that there’s no way he’ll do that. You have to help. There’s no way you’re just going to stand there and watch the doors close on your friends. Without a second thought, you break out into a sprint, headed straight into the maze. You feel hands brushing against you, trying to grab you, stop you, as you lurch out of their reach and straight into the ever-closing door space. But you keep running. All you can think is that you can get there in time to help. You have to help them. Gally’s voice can be heard far above the rest. “Y/N! Y/N NO! STOP! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?” But you know he’s not close enough to stop you. Out of the corner of your eye you see Thomas, sprinting right behind you, rushing to get through before the doors crush you both. With a final lunge, you break through to the other side, pulling Thomas with you. You both collapse to the ground in front of the doors. But this time, from the inside. As you turn your eyes up, you see Minho stare at you dead on, his face obviously showing his exhaustion from Alby’s weight. “Good job. You just killed yourself.” ——————————————–----------------- “NO!” Gally almost trips over himself in his attempt to stop her. Running, praying. Everything seems to go in slow motion. He sees the hands trying to grab her. He sees her escape the hands. He sees her sprint into the maze. He sees a glimpse of her beautiful face for what is undoubtedly the last time. Then he sees nothing but cold, stone doors right in front of him. She’s gone. It haunts his mind, the thought echoing and bouncing around, crescendoing until it’s a scream, overwhelming his conscious thoughts. She’s gone. He’ll never see the endearing way she tries to hide a smile behind her hand when he says something stupid. He’ll never again hear her sweet laughter, the laughter that somehow managed to settle itself comfortably into his heart. He’ll never feel her soft hands trace his skin, carefully, gently. Not anymore. No one survives a night in the maze. The maze doesn’t care that she’s his only happiness. The maze has stolen her with no glimmer of regret. Gally’s fists are suddenly against the doors, hitting, punching, attacking, as if it will bring his love back from the grave. He knows that his hands should be feeling some sort of pain- he sees blood, brought out by the rough facets of rock- but he’s numb, his skin is numb, his head is numb. He feels everything and nothing at once. He registers arms on his shoulders, trying to pull him back. Relentless. He attempts to shake them off, but they only pull harder. He turns and screams at them, throws his body against the stone, it has to open, it just has to. Even more hands fall on him, he can hear the people around him talking to him but he doesn’t even care. Gally stumbles backwards and falls on his knees. She’s gone. ——————————————–----------------- “What do you mean, we’ve killed ourselves?” Thomas asks Minho. “We came in here to try and help you.” He shakes his head grimly. “You don’t get it. The maze at night is a death sentence. There’s no shucking way those grievers aren’t going to catch you, and when they do, I’m not gonna be around to see it.” He turns away from you and starts walking. “So what? You’re just gonna leave us?” You ask incredulously. “You did this to yourself, and I’m faster on my own. Do me a favor, try not to get killed.” In only a moment, he was gone. You begin to panic. You’ll never get out of the maze. You’ll never see Gally again. You’re going to die! Thomas sees this and reassures you. “Hey, hey. We can do this okay? We’ve just gotta figure out some way to get Alby safe.” “Okay…okay, we can do that. One step at a time right?” You look around yourself at the maze. “If we leave him here, would the grievers attack him? We just need to get him through the night.” “No,” Thomas says. “We can’t just leave him by the doors, any passing griever would attack. But maybe…could we hide him somewhere?” You search the walls. All you see is ivy, and you wouldn’t be able to get enough for a pile to hide Alby under before the grievers came out. But you can’t leave him on the ground…you walk over and pull on a vine. It’s stable. Your mind starts to run a mile a minute and you catch an idea in the midst. “Thomas! I’ve got it. We can tie him up on the wall with the ivy. That way they won’t see him and we can get him down in the morning. Well…if we make it till then.” “Y/N, you’re a genius! Let’s do this,” Thomas answers. “We can’t push him up the wall by ourselves, so we’ll need to do it bit by bit. Tie his arms, then legs, then move the arms higher and tie, then the legs again, and on like that.” “Perfect!” Soon, however, you realize how not perfect, and very difficult this task is. Alby is heavy. Like, really heavy. You and Thomas are sweating and exhausted by the time you’ve gotten him halfway up the wall. It’s then that you hear the first heart-stopping sounds of metal, coming your way, fast. Your face grows pale. “Thomas. What do we do? Where do we go?” “I don’t know. Alby will be safe up here, I think. Just…lets get down from this wall, then follow me.” He carefully unties himself and starts to retreat, and you do the same. On the hard ground of the dirt below you and with the maze walls looming over you, you begin to realize how real this situation is. You could die at any second. There’s no safety in the maze. Not anywhere. Thomas breaks into a jog. You follow close behind, wondering how he’s so calm. He’s always doing the most impulsive, dangerous things and yet he always turns out all right and seems totally chill about whatever it was he did. Though, you guess this time you did the dangerous thing too, so you can’t say anything. You both stop dead in your tracks when a griever rolls around a corner to land in front of you. “Come on!” you say, retreating, but before you make it 10 steps you see another griever appear where you just came from. “No no no no no,” you mutter to yourself. “We’re dead. We are so, so dead.” “Stay close to me. We’ll try to dodge past them. Duck low and move fast. We can do this,” Thomas says quietly. The screeching of steel against steel grows as they close in on you. You feel sick looking at them, their disgusting skin rippling in the moonlight. You glance at Thomas, and he yells, "Now!" You dive to the left of one of the grievers. It doesn’t grab you, but you feel a sharp pain in your arm and shoulder. Glancing down, you see blood rapidly seeping out of a large cut- it must have caught you with one of its blades. You scramble to your feet, adrenaline numbing the pain. Thomas is already running; you sprint after him. The sound of the grievers terrifies you, but you can’t stop now. After a couple minutes of running, you can tell you're almost griever meat. You know that they're slowly catching up to you, and not even your fastest could outrun them forever. Right when you're about to give up, you see Minho jump out from behind a corner and grab Thomas's arm, pulling him in a new direction. You let out a surprised noise but follow them. Minho yells back to you and Thomas as he runs. “They’re slower than we are going around the corners. We’ll outrun them for now. Come on, I have a plan!” You don’t question it. You just run. After following him through a seemingly endless set of sharp turns, the path leads to a sheer drop off. “Minho! We’re trapped! What the shuck are you doing?” Thomas asks. “Just trust me shank, okay? When they roll at you, jump out of the way at the last second. They won’t be able to stop the momentum and they’ll sail right over the cliff. Get ready, here they come!” One rolls at you with frightening speed, its metal arms clashing together every few seconds. It takes all your will to stand your ground, but you manage it. At the last second, you dive. The griever goes flying past you. It’s actually working! A few more join the party, rolling at Thomas and Minho. They send them over the edge in no time and soon, everything is quiet. “You need this,” Minho says to you, holding out a piece of cloth he pulled from his pack. “Hold out your arm.” You do, vaguely surprised at how much blood there is. He ties the cloth tightly around your wound, and you ask if you can sleep. “Yeah. I’ll keep watch.” You nod gratefully, slumping to the ground and closing your eyes. As you fade away, you hear Thomas crying. ——————————————–----------------- “Gally, come on,” Jeff says. “Just let me help.” He holds crumpled bandages and some antiseptic in his hands. Gally just shakes his head emotionlessly. “No. Leave me alone.” “Please. You’re hurt, I need to clean-” “Don’t you understand?!” Gally yells, suddenly standing and grabbing a hold of Jeff’s shirt with fire in his eyes. “I could have saved her! It’s my fault that she’s dead, I’m supposed to protect her! I promised myself, the very shucking day that she came up in that box, that I’d protect her. And now she’s dead and I could have stopped it, I could have- something could- I- I promised.” Gally lets go of the shirt, breathing heavily, and stumbles back a few steps, leaning his back against the door of the maze, where he’s been all night since they closed. “Gally, there’s still a chance. They could have made it. There’s a first to everything.” “No.” His face is broken and still. “She’s gone.” ——————————————–----------------- “Hey, Y/N. Wake up. It’s light. The doors will open soon.” You sit up groggily. It’s Thomas speaking to you. He looks exhausted, as does Minho, you notice as you look to him too. You probably do too, but at least you got sleep. Thomas offers his hand and helps you up. Your head spins as you stand upright, probably from blood loss. You can still walk though, so you follow Minho and Thomas, holding to the wall for support. When you reach the doors, they’re still closed. “Let’s get Alby down,” Minho glances at you. “Yeah, Thomas told me all about your shucking crazy plan to string him up there. Let’s hope he’s alive.” You can barely walk, so you let the boys get Alby down from the wall. The moment he’s on the ground, you check for a pulse. It’s faint, but it’s there. “He’s alive,” you say, relieved. The four of you wait impatiently near the door, one unconscious, one near to that, and the other two sleep deprived. What a pathetic bunch. Despite that, you smile to yourself. You all actually did it. You survived a night in the maze. When the doors start to rumble, you shoot to your feet. You almost fall over, but catch yourself on the wall. All you can think about is Gally. You can’t wait to hold him, let go of control and just be happy again. You see a sliver of light through the opening and almost cry in relief. When it’s halfway open, the yelling starts from the other side. “They’re alive!!! They’re okay!!!” You hear someone shout, as you make your way through the doors. Minho and Thomas are dragging Alby. Your head whips around and finally lands on what you’re looking for- Gally. He looks like he’s in shock, standing there right next to the entrance, but then his face breaks into a relieved laugh and he rushes for you. He picks you up in his arms and spins you around, muttering “you’re alive, you’re alive,” over and over again. It’s the tightest he’s ever held you. You start to cry, a mixture of happiness and exhaustion. “Yeah. I’m alive. I love you, I love you. I’m alive.” "I'm here," he tells you. "I love you too. Don't worry, I'm here." At one point someone approaches to talk to you but Gally immediately tells them to back off. You don't even care. You're just relieved to be in his arms again. He strokes your hair and says, "Shuck, Y/N. I'm never letting you out of my sight again." You let out a small laugh through your tears. “I think I’m okay with that, Gally.”
Drinking with Regret
I’m not sure that this went where I wanted to, but I figured I’d post it anyway. Summary: Gally doesn’t want the reader to drink any of his ‘special drink’ because he doesn’t want her to have to deal with the hangover. So, she enlists someone else’s help to get drunk. Trigger warning: Drinking? (Is that a tw thing idk) ————————————————————- The wind blows gently against your face as you walk across the glade towards the builders. Sunlight warms your skin and your step is softened by the grass underneath your feet. You can’t help but smile slightly at how beautiful the glade is- a haven within a hell. Gally is hard at work on a set of tables, a few builders helping nearby. Instead of alerting him to your presence- his back is turned to you- you sneak up behind him, quietly and carefully. Once you’re right behind him, you throw your hands over his eyes. “Guess who!” He laughs. “Oh, I don’t know…Thomas? Newt? Some other particular person in the glade with ridiculously small hands?” He spins around so he’s facing you and your hands slip down to clasp behind his neck. He pulls your waist in close and smiles at you. Gally has this face he does whenever he teases you- he just looks so smug and in confident and adorable. It melts your heart every time. You gasp playfully in return. “Ugh! So rude. I’ll have you know, my hands are perfectly normal-sized.” “Oh yeah?” he challenges. “Sometimes when I hold your hand, I’m worried I’ll lose it, it’s so small.” “No way! The problem here is that you have gigantic monster hands that could crush someone’s arm with one high five!” You tilt your head at him with a grin. “It’s not my fault I’m dating a freak of nature.” He rolls his eyes at you, then pulls you closer to him. “You’re lucky I love you.” “Don’t worry. You may be a freak of nature, but you’re my freak of nature.” And with that you leaned in to kiss him softly. But it’s over too soon. Gally pulls away, mumbling, “I have to keep working, Y/N.” You frown, and kiss him again. You feel him smile as he pulls away once more. “Y/N.” You sigh dramatically. “Fine. But I need to talk to you first.” “What about?” You pause. This has to be approached carefully if you want to pull this off. “There’s a bonfire in just a little while later tonight…” He tilts his head. “Yeah, I know, I’ll probably have to miss the first part of it to get this done. What about it?” “Well…I was just thinking I could maybe try some of your drink this time? I’m sure I could handle it, Gal. I’m not a lightweight. Well, I think. I’ve never really had anything like it but I bet-” He cuts you off firmly. “No, Y/N. You’ve seen the guys the morning after they down that stuff. They get so sick, they’re miserable for most of the next day.” “But-” “Y/N, I don’t care about any of the rest of these shanks feeling like klunk but I can’t let you drink yourself into oblivion. Especially since I make that stuff. I won’t let myself be responsible for your pain, Princess.” You pout and say, “Whatever, I guess. I’ll see you later.” You untangle yourself from his warm arms and leave, slightly annoyed. You hear a hammer swinging as he turns back to his work. Who is he to decide what you can and can’t do? If you want to drink the shucking stuff, you will. He’s not in charge of you. You mull over these thoughts in your head, your annoyance growing. There’s no way Gally would give you any of the stuff himself, so you’d have to get it some other way. Your eyes fall on Minho, walking out the door to the map room, done for the day. You smile. If anyone will help you get drunk, it’s Minho. ——————————————–—————– “Do you have it?” You ask Minho, as everyone returns from getting their drinks from Gally. He nods with a mischievous grin. “Oh yeah. I’ve got it.” With that he hands two jars over to you. Making your way over to the fire, Minho by your side, you double check that Gally is still working on his project. You don’t want him to see you and stop the fun before it happens. You look at one of the jars for a moment, open it, take a deep breath, and chug down half of it. “Holy shuck, Y/N! Take it down a notch,” Minho laughs at you as you cough and wipe your mouth. “You’re gonna drink it so fast you won’t even taste it!” You make a face. “That stuff is disgusting, Minho.” Minho pauses. “Yeah, on second thought, maybe you don’t really want to taste it. Chug!!” You tip the jar back and down the rest of the strong liquid. Almost immediately you start to feel dizzy and loose, comfortable. You let it sit in your system for a little while and the longer it’s there the better you feel. “Wow. I feel shucking great,” you say. This is the best stuff ever, Min. Thanks for risking your shucking life to get me drunk.“ With that you laugh, and Minho downs some as well. “No problem. Now that we’ve ruined your innocence, let’s have some fun!” With that, Minho grabs your hand and drags you to join the circle of gladers around the fight ring. Everyone talks for what seems like forever, then two people are shoved into the middle. Thomas and Winston. You yell in excitement. All of your senses are blurred but somehow running at high-speed at the same time. Winston and Thomas are in the circle for a long while, pushing and shoving and punching. You cheer incessantly, not really sure who you’re rooting for. Your brain is so fuzzy that you don’t really care. Thomas punches into the air as Winston ducks. Thomas falls forward and Winston lunges for him, but doesn’t realize as Thomas rolls away that he’s headed out of the circle. Winston lands in the ring of boys and Thomas throws his hands up in victory! You scream in delight, downing a huge swig from your second jar of Gally’s drink. Suddenly someone grabs the jar from your hands and shoves you into the circle. You’ve never fought at a bonfire before, but hey- you figure, now’s a good a time as any to start. A grin spreads across your face. “I am ready, slintheads!” You yell. “Who’s gonna fight me??” Someone else steps into the circle. You can’t remember his name…you think it started with an R? Or maybe an E? You’d remember it eventually. The boy lets out a war cry and the gladers continue to cheer. They count down…3…you can’t stop laughing at how weird the kid looks crouched down like that- ready to fight…2…you step forward, the ground feeling unsteady underneath you…1….the boy lunges for you. You sidestep quickly and the boy misses. You spin around, swinging your fists at his head. The swings barely have any power behind them, since you still are laughing. This drink was amazing. You hadn’t felt this carelessly happy since…well, you couldn’t remember! Out of no where, though, you find yourself knocked harshly to the ground. It takes a second for you to register that your head hurts. “Ow..” You say out loud, stunned at the unpleasant sensation in the midst of the fogginess in your head. You stumble to your feet and frown. You try to reach for the boy to retaliate when you hear yelling. “What the shuck is she doing in the ring??” You hear Gally approaching fast. You let your legs collapse and you sit down on the ground with a frown. Now he won’t want you to fight, or drink any more. “I want more,” you say to the general area where you had stood before fighting. Someone had taken your drink, you remembered. “Give it to me.” You reach out to the boy holding it but he shakes his head. “Shuck no, not while Gally’s here,” he says. “But I want more!” You say angrily. “And now I can’t even have more any because he’s here and he won’t even let me have it.” The boy just shakes his head. With that, Gally breaks through the circle. He makes eye contact at you and you wave happily, forgetting your anger. You’re just so glad to see his face! “Gally I love you a whole lot and a more than that too,” you slur. Sighing contentedly, you reach up to touch your head where it hurts. “Oh.” There’s some blood. He turns to the boy in the middle of the ring with you. “Get the shuck away from here or I’m going to kill you.” “Hey hey no he’s my friend! I don’t remember his name but I was just fighting with him but good fighting, see I’m okay!” You hold out your hands, then take them back and wipe the blood off, then hold them back out. “See! All good. Can I have more now?” You turn to the boy but he’s retreated. “No! Where is it?” Your face falls. “Y/N, are you drunk?” Gally asks, bending down next to you. He takes in a breath. “You are. And you’re hurt.” He picks you up in his arms then strides away, towards the homestead. “We’re going to the med-jacks.” “Bye friends!” You wave at all of them. “I have to go now but if I am going then I’ll see you later I think.” Gally says nothing to you (despite your constant talking) until you get to Jeff. He sets you down on the bed and turns around to explain things to Jeff. You start to stand up because you want to see if you can, you totally can, you think, but Gally spins around and guides you back down again. “Y/N, stay there. You’re bleeding. And really shucking drunk. I don’t want you walking anywhere.” You whine at him. “But I am just fine see look I’m smiling if I- if I wasn’t smiling then I wouldn’t be fine but I am so I am though.” You stand up again and he puts you right back down. “No. Jeff needs to check out your head.” He sits next to you and hold your hand as Jeff takes a cloth and wipes away blood. “It looks like it’s a small cut,” Jeff says. “It’s not bad. Head wounds just bleed a lot. You’ll just want to keep pressure on it with this.” He wraps the bandage around your head tightly so that it covers your small injury. “See, I am fine Gally!” You give him a beaming smile. “I really reallyy like your drink that I wasn’t supposed to have. Bye Jeff!!” He shakes his head as he carries you down the stairs. “Who even gave you some? How much did you drink?” “Minho is my dealer.” You giggle at yourself. You’re just so funny. “He gave me two.” “What? Sips?” “Bottles. Jars? Whatever they are.” Gally’s eyes widen. “Are you kidding?” “Well I didn’t even finish my second one because I was fighting and I wanted it but I didn’t have it because I love you a whole lot.” “Glad to hear that, Princess. You’re not going to when your hangover hits. I make that stuff myself and I never have more than a jar.” As you get outside, you attempt to get down from his arms. “Where are you trying to go?” He asks. “Back to my friends!” You answer. “I need to see them so they know I am okay because I most certainly am!” He laughs softly. “Nope. You’re not going anywhere but bed.” You start to protest but he shushes you. “I’ll tell them you’re okay. Right after I beat the ever living klunk out of Minho.” You hear his tone of voice and you know he really won’t do more than yell at him. You sigh and flop back against his chest. “But I don’t even want to sleep.” “Trust me, Y/N. You’ll want it.” Once you reach your bed, he lays you down softly. You reach down and take your shoes off and he puts the blanket over you. When he goes to back up you glare at him. “I’m not sleeping unless you’re here.” He throws his hands up, conceding a rather easy defeat. You pull the blanket back and he lays next to you. His skin is always just so warm, you notice. And he always smells like a mixture of cinnamon and wood shavings. You sigh. “I really love you a lot Gally and I am so shucking sorry that I messed up and drank a whole lot of that stuff and then also fought. Also you smell really good. Good that?” You mumble as you snuggle against his chest. You feel him move against your forehead as he laughs quietly. “Good that, princess. Sleep now.” You do. You close your eyes, and the fuzziness fades to black. ——————————————–————— “Gally…” You moan in pain as your eyes open. “Everything hurts and I’m a shucking idiot and you were so so right and I want to die, and you were right and I hate that stuff, ugh.” He stirs and opens his eyes. “You feeling it now?” His voice is rough with sleep. “Shuck. Yes. Oh, yes. I’m a slinthead. This is natural selection and I’m dying because I’m a slinthead.” Your head pounds and you scrunch your eyes up to try to relieve some of the pain. “Don’t worry, there are still plenty of slintheads here in the glade for Mother Nature to pick off before she takes you.” You just groan in response. “Look, Y/N. You need to trust me when I’m trying to keep you safe, okay? I can’t stand seeing you hurt.” He strokes your hair softly. “I will trust you always if it means I never have to feel this again. Also, I’m never getting up again either.” “Good that. Let’s rest for a while.”
Progression
At first I fell apart
Pieces of me scattered in the dark
The depths of my soul ached
Every piece of me you scraped
Out of my chest
Who would have guessed?
Then I was enraged
The pieces were locked in a cage
My soul was hidden
The true feelings forbidden
Locked away
Left to decay
Today I am well
There are no pieces in a cell
I know my soul now
Through the sweat of my brow
It will no longer scatter
For I know that I matter
It Will Never Change
You know your name
You see your visage
You speak your tales
You hear your breath
You feel your flaws
You smell your sweat
*
They know your label
They see your veneer
They speak your deceits
They hear your speech
They feel your shell
They smell your perfume
*
I know your title
I see your façade
I speak your truth
I hear your lies
I feel your betrayal
I smell your desperation
Deepest Fear
If the choice were ever given
Between change and consistency
Then consistency would be ecstasy
For people fight change
What is known is appealing
Naturally, fear stems from things unseen
The unknown
Is that why you are frightened of yourself?
You thought you were being selfless. In reality all you were was selfish. I hope you're happy with the bed you made because that is where you will forever lay.
