Revival Mitch Pileggi Wanted to Return

When I was there on the set for a week, watching this, what was really amazing is how many people on the crew and the case were so excited about being back-- especially Mitch PIleggi, he was like, ‘I’ll drop anything to be back.’ Especially if he didn’t have to shave his beard. And Chris actually made some phone calls and found out if you’re at a certain level in the FBI, you don’t have to shave your beard. So, Mitch got to keep his beard. Mitch was just really happy. And David was just so happy to be back.

The last episode of the X-Files 10th Season (the 6th episode of the revival) My Struggle II aired on February 22, 2016. Despite being billed as a 6 episode event, the mini season ended on a cliff hanger with Mulder (David Duchovny) being overcome by an alien virus, the alien invasion beginning, and agent Scully (Gillian Anderson) being abducted by the alien invaders. While My Struggle I (season opener) focused on Mulder, My Struggle II focused on Scully. The episode also marked Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish) first appearance in the revived series. The episode also featured Walter Skinner (Mitch Peleggi), Tad O'Malley (Joel McHale), Agent Einstein (Lauren Ambrose), Agent Miller (Robbie Amell), and the Smoking Man (William B Davis). Fox ended up Green lighting another shortened season (this time 10 episodes) that aired in 2018, which retconned the events of this episode as a vision Scully had of what would happen if her and Mulder did not alter events. Man in Furs by Catherine Sauvat and Anne Simon had been on my to-read pile for a couple months, where the French duo chronicle masochism’s namesake, Leopold von Sacher-Masoch. A somewhat abbreviated story, which kicks off with the publication of Venus in Furs and Sacher-Masoch’s marriage to his real-life Wanda, I was hoping for a little more examination into the roots of kink, and where the stories came from. Still, Simon’s whimsical pencils channel the highs and lows (associated heartbreak) and hypocrisies of a man whose work has had a profound effect on countless lives across several centuries.
