growing up is bullshit

Just think. You’re young - the world is at your fingertips. You spend hours and hours planning grand ideas for your future. You can do anything. You are creative, imaginative, and skilled. You know it too. You’re passionate, a dreamer - you always danced to the beat of your own drum and you loved it. You never want to grow up. But then you do. You don’t want to, but you change your grand plans and put them on the back burner because you have to “get practical” and “focus on what’s important.” You’re still passionate. You’re still skilled. You think to yourself, “Yeah, I have to be responsible. I can still do anything I want, I’m still free, I’m still me - I’ll just do this first...” You get the best job you can that you don’t think you’ll absolutely hate right outta high school or go you to college and major in something profitable you don’t think you’ll absolutely hate, and everything is suddenly different. You’re overworked - you’re tired. Tired like you’ve never been before. Stressed like you’ve never been before. You spend so much time and energy on what you think you should be doing instead of what you want to do - internships, fieldwork, volunteering, jobs - all for the resume boost, right? It’ll be worth it in the end, right? You have to be responsible. You forget why you loved your passions. Soon you’ll forget what they were all together. You don’t have the time anymore. You worry about success, not fulfillment. You worry about survival, not living. You’ve forgotten about your grand plans - what were they again? You have bills to pay or mouths to feed, maybe both. Time goes by faster than you thought it ever could. Years pass in the blink of an eye - where the hell did the time go? You meet truly evil people, perhaps for the first time, perhaps not. You let them into your heart because you don’t know any better, and they crush your spirit because they are just as miserable as you are. You’re afraid to trust again - what happened to your most important friendships? You stopped talking to your childhood best friend years ago. It wasn’t on purpose, you were just busy. Is it too late to call? You make new friends, but it’s never the same. You’re successful on paper, but what does that even mean? Who are you now? You don’t know this person you’ve become. It’s your fault if you’re not happy. It must be. You did everything “right” the best you could. What went wrong?

You grew up.

And it sucked.

And you don’t know what the fuck you’re going to do about it but you do know two things for certain: (1) you’re not dead yet and (2) you’re gonna fucking figure it out.

To anyone who made it this far, I only have a few more things to say. Please, please don’t let anybody take that away from you, not even yourself. Please never forget who you are, because it is so easy to. Nobody wants to grow up. Nobody thinks they will.

your boyfriend being a dick to girls hitting on him just because he has a girlfriend (THAT THEY DON'T KNOW ABOUT) isn't hot. just like your boyfriend not being able to stomach you calling him "friend" isn't, him marking you up "to show who you belong to" isn't, him not helping a girl in need because "you're the only woman he should be worried about" isn't, and him being rough with you in bed after "you've misbehaved" isn't.

what pisses me off more than anything about straight cis white men hating on superman 2025 is the fact that they don't get him to begin with. Not only on the surface surface surface level of superman saves people. That's what he does. If you think he's "gone woke" for that, you literally know nothing. I wouldn't trust you to answer what colour the sky is correctly. But because you will never know what it's like to have to defend your humanity. "I'm as human as anyone" means more to people than a line in a movie about a big man with powers wearing colourful lycra and you don't get that. Yall are the same people that don't understand why Pete being portrayed by an African American boy in Smallville was a good idea (never forgive the execution). This is Kansas in the early 2000s. Just above 1 percent of their population was African American. And still today, they make up less than 10 percent. So of course Clark is gonna be friends with the other loner, of course he's gonna understand him, of course they're both ostracised BECAUSE THEY DONT FIT IN. Pete physically and Clark internally.

So yeah, you don't like superman, because superman was never about you. When everything else is.

Superman is for the minorities. He's just presented as a white man because that's what our culture allows to reign.
